Lemon & Garlic Green Beans by John SpottiswoodIt is rare to have a side dish which everyone keeps reaching for instead of the main dish. That's especially true if its a fairly simple green vegetable side. But these green beans were truly that good. We used packaged, thin french cut green beans from Trader Joes. They are tender and tasty on their own, but I've never had them taste… |

Simple Pasta with Spinach, Mushrooms and Tomatoes by John SpottiswoodThis is one of those simple recipes that are almost embarrassing to put on this website. But this was really tasty and healthy, and our kids devoured it. I have everything being prepared in parallel, so the whole dish takes less than 25 minutes start to finish. If you're tight on time, this is a winner! |

Roman-Style Spinach by John SpottiswoodThis is a great new way I've learned to cook spinach. I wouldn't have thought of adding sweetness to spinach, but I really like the way the currants and pine nuts contrast with the slight bitterness of fresh spinach. This is a new winner that I'll be cooking frequently in the future! |

Shaved Brussels Sprout and Farro Salad by John SpottiswoodThis recipe is adapted from one by Susan Spungen. I thought it was phenomenal. If you can't find Farro, you coud substitute brown rice or pearl barley, but get Farro if you can. It's wonderful. You might consider serving this as a side for Thanksgiving. It would make a great addition. |

Try munching on a couple of the eggplant cubes when they are fresh out of the pan. They put french fries to shame! |

Cheese Tortellini with Purple Sage and Browned Butter by K. GarnerMy family loves this dish. It's a classic and uses an herb that grows year after year in my yard--purple sage. Any culinary sage will do--the ones with the large velvety leaves. Don't use Russian sage or Pineapple Sage. Stick with the basic sages. We like short pasta with this, and often use Orecchiete or Bow Tie pasta. You've got to… |
