Cooking rice in a solar cooker is very easy and turns out very well.

  • 2 cups long grain rice.
  • 2.5 cups of water or broth.
  • A little salt to taste.

Directions

  1. Spray the inside of a dark pan with an oil spray, mix rice, water or broth and salt, pour into pan, and cover with lid. Place in the solar cooker. The rice will be done in about 3 hours. You can leave it for 4 to 5 hours with no problems. Also rice mixes can be used or you can add vegetables to the rice mix. You can check the rice in a couple of hours to see how done everything is, but remember that you lose heat and the solar cooker will have to regain that heat. I usually put items in the solar cooker about 10 am or so and forget about it until late afternoon.
