Sonoma Chicken SaladThis recipe is adapted from one that appeared in The Whole Foods Market Cookbook published in 2002. It was sold in their Deli section of prepared foods. I don't know if they still offer it or not. I do minimal shopping at their stores and limit my purchases to specific items I can't get elsewhere at much cheaper prices. I made… |

Tuscan Chicken Salad with Cannellini Beans & CiliegineThis is a tasty main dish salad. It is quick and easy to prepare. It would be good with other protein such as fish or beef as well. The creamy Italian dressing is optional. Like they say: "Happy wife, happy life." I included it because my wife is not that fond of vinegar and oil Italian dressing. I served the salad with… |

Crab & Avocado BLTs On SourdoughThis is a different take on standard BLT sandwiches. The addition of lump crab and avocado make for a delicious sandwich. This would be great with Dungeness crab when in season fresh. I served the sandwiches with seedless red grapes and stone fruit. For a wine I chose a Viansa 2013 Sonoma Valley Sauvignon Blanc. Chilled it… |

Asian Sloppy Joe SlidersThis is adapted from a recipe that appeared in Cuisine At Home recently. I added red onion and used more cilantro than the original. It is an easy dish to prepare in a hurry for a weeknight meal. The water chestnuts and hoisin sauce add an Asian flair to the standard Sloppy Joe. I served the dish with Myra Byanka's Napa Asian… |

GuacamoleThis is an easy to make guacamole. Every time I make it I think of my brother. The only way he will eat avocadoes is if it is guacamole. Otherwise he won't touch them. We are fortunate to have great Hass avocadoes all year long here in California. My wife loves avocadoes. Though they are high in fat it is good fat not saturated.… |

Annatto RiceAnnatto oil gives this rice dish a nice yellow color. The oil doesn't add much taste but makes for a nice presentation. It can be used instead of butter or oil when cooking long grain rice. I used parboiled. If you use a different type of rice vary the cooking time accordingly. |

Cilantro VinaigretteThis vinaigrette is adapted from one in Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill cookbook. I didn't have rice wine vinegar so I used plane rice vinegar instead. I also whisked in a tablespoon of mayonnaise to thicken the dressing a bit. It stores well refrigerated. It can be used as a dressing or garnish to most any dish. |

Banh Mi Brat SandwichThis recipe is adapted from one that appeared in Cuisine At Home recently. Banh Mi is a Vietnamese term for bread and a popular sandwich served on a French baguette. The original recipe used a hot dog which I changed to a German Bratwurst. I also decreased the amount of ham as the sausage was much larger than a hot dog. I… |

Grilled Chicken WrapsThese chicken wraps make a nice light meal or pair well with soup for a quick week night meal. I served them with a curried coconut carrot soup. I used Middle Eastern flatbread from Trader's Joes but make your own if you have time. I used Tandoori seasoning from Penzey's; again make your own version if you have the necessary spices. |

Creamy Italian DressingThis is adapted from a recipe in Cuisine At Home. The original used much more sugar which I cut back on. I increased the amount of granulated garlic and added garlic pepper. I also added finely minced parsley for some color. The addition of sugar makes for a slightly sweet dressing. I used it on a main dish salad which had… |
