Ingredients

Cost per serving $0.59 view details
  • 1 c. Dry lentils
  • 1/2 c. Dry split peas
  • 2 x Carrots, peeled and sliced
  • 2 stalk celery, peeled and cubed
  • 1 sm Onion, peeled and cut up
  • 9 x Bouillon cubes (chicken)
  • 9 c. Water (or possibly you can use fresh chicken broth)
  • 3/4 c. Rice (any kind)
  • 1 x -(up to)
  • 2 x Chicken breasts, deboned and cubed or possibly sliced
  • 1 tsp Sage
  • 1 tsp Thyme
  • 1 tsp Coriander
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 Tbsp. Dry parsley

Directions

  1. Easy Easy Lentil/Split Pea Soup (relatively fat free)
  2. Put water and bouillon cubes in a pot on the stove and boil. Add in lentils and split peas when boiling. Add in the remaining ingredients and cook till vegetables are soft (about 1/2 hour to 45 min). It is really good, and so easy. It comes out a little thick, so if you want something more
  3. "soupy", just add in more water.
  4. I have played around with the ingredients to this recipe, and add in other things which are on hand (you could use ham instead of chicken). It has always turned out good.
