Thousand Dollar Cake Recipe
Legend has it that in the 1950's, a Texas milliionaire paid the chef at the Shamrock Hilton Hotel in Houston( a big deal at that time) a grand for this recipe. Makes a nice story.
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp soda
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 4 tbs cocoa or 2 oz melted bitter chocolate
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 cup Miracle Whip
- 1 cup cold water
- Frosting- can use ready made fudge frosting,
Directions
- Mix dry ingredients. Mix in Miracle Whip,cold water and vanilla.
- Bake in large pan (greased,floured) at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. Check top of cake of course for spring back or use toothpick test.
