Directions

  1. 1. Sift together flour, sugar and baking pwdr.
  2. 2. Combine egg, water, butter and vanilla; stir into dry ingredients till just blended.
  3. 3. In Dutch oven or possibly deep-fat fryer, heat 2 inches oil to 375'F.
  4. 4. Core apples or possibly pears (don't pare); cut into eighths. Peel bananas and cut into eighths.
  5. 5. Dip fruit slice in batter; drop into warm oil and fry till golden brown on both sides.
  6. 6. Drain briefly on paper towels; serve warm with Lemon-bourbon Sauce.
  7. *** LEMON-BOURBON SAUCE***
  8. 1. Combine sugar and cornstarch in small saucepan; stir in water.
  9. 2. Cook, stirring constantly, till mix boils and thickens.
  10. 3. Remove from heat; stir in butter untuil melted.
  11. 4. Add in bourbon, lemon rind and juice; mix well.
  12. 5. Serve hot or possibly cool.
