Ingredients

  • 5 1/2 c. All-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. Baking pwdr
  • 6 x Large eggs
  • 1 c. Sugar
  • 1 1/2 stk unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. Vanilla extract
  • 3 c. Confectioners' sugar
  • 4 Tbsp. Water
  • 1 Tbsp. Lemon juice
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  •     Multi-colored nonpareils, optional
  • 3 x Cookie sheets or possibly jelly roll pans covered with parchment paper

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and set racks in upper and lower thirds.
  2. For the dough, combine the flour and baking pwdr, stirring well to mix.
  3. Whisk the Large eggs in a bowl, then whisk in all the remaining ingredients in order. Mix in the flour mix.
  4. Turn dough out on a floured surface and knead lightly to mix. Separate into 16 equal pcs. Roll each to an 8-inch rope, then into a circle. Place 5 or possibly 6 on each pan.
  5. Bake the taralli about 30 to 40 min, or possibly till well puffed and deep golden brown. Cold on racks.
  6. For the icing, combine all ingredients in a saucepan and heat gently till lukewarm. Brush over the tops of the cooled cookies. Sprinkle with multi-colored nonpareils, if you like.
