%20each%20and%20every%20Fall.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou%20want%20to%20begin%20with%20your%20favorite%20type%20of%20baking%20apples,%20enough%20to%20make%206%20cups,%20peeled%20and%20sliced.%20This%20time%20I%20used%20a%20combination%20of%20Macintosh%20and%20Cortland,%20but%20I've%20also%20used%20Melrose%20and%20Granny%20Smith.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOnce%20you've%20peeled%20and%20sliced%206%20cups%20of%20apple,%20stir%20in%20flour,%20sugar,%20and%20cinnamon.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPour%20the%20apple%20mixture%20into%20an%20unbaked%20pie%20crust.%20You%20could%20make%20your%20own%20crust,%20but%20I%20have%20a%20tendency%20to%20pull%20a%20pre-made%20crust%20from%20the%20freezer.%20I%20know...I'm%20a%20cheater!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENow%20combine%20flour%20and%20brown%20sugar.%20Cut%20in%20a%20stick%20of%20butter%20until%20well%20blended.%20From%20some%20distant%20childhood%20memory%20I%20hear%20the%20words%20%22pea-shaped%22%20in%20regard%20to%20the%20desired%20texture%20for%20this%20topping.%20Mine%20tends%20to%20be%20a%20little%20finer%20than%20that,%20but%20yeah,%20shoot%20for%20pea-sized%20crumbs.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPour,%20dump,%20spoon,%20or%20shake%20(whatever%20works%20for%20ya!)%20the%20topping%20over%20the%20apples.%20You%20might%20have%20to%20heap%20it%20up%20on%20top%20to%20fit%20it%20all%20on%20there.%20That's%20alright,%20it%20settles%20down%20as%20it%20bakes.%20Pat%20the%20topping%20gently%20into%20place%20so%20that%20it's%20not%20falling%20off%20everywhere%20on%20the%20way%20to%20the%20oven.%20I%20put%20my%20pie%20on%20a%20piece%20of%20foil%20with%20the%20sides%20slightly%20rolled%20up,%20just%20in%20case%20is%20overflows%20while%20baking.%20I'm%20SO%20not%20a%20fan%20of%20the%20smoking%20oven!%20Now%20bake%20at%20350%20degrees%20for%20one%20hour.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERemove%20from%20the%20oven%20and%20cool...for%20at%20least%20long%20enough%20to%20avoid%20incinerating%20your%20taste%20buds.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThen%20slice%20and%20serve.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFrench%20Apple%20Pie%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFilling:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20medium%20bowl,%20mix%20brown%20sugar%20with%20flour.%20Cut%20in%20butter%20until%20pea-sized%20crumbs%20form.%20Spoon%20over%20the%20apples%20until%20the%20pie%20is%20evenly%20covered%20with%20topping.%20Gently%20pat%20into%20place.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBake%20at%20350%20degrees%20for%201%20hour.%20Topping%20and%20crust%20should%20be%20golden%20brown.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
