  1. Place the potatoes in a large pot and fill with cool water.
  2. Bring to a boil over high heat and cook till the potatoes are very soft or possibly for approximately 25 to 35 min.
  3. Drain the potatoes in a colander and let sit for 5 min.
  4. Put the butter and buttermilk in a small saute/fry pan and heat over medium heat. Don't bring to a boil.
  5. Place the potatoes, butter and buttermilk in a 5-qt mixing bowl.
  6. Add in the chives, and mix with a hand whisk or possibly a potato masher for approximately 2 min.
  7. Then, blend on high speed for an additional 2 min.
  8. Remove from the bowl and place into a serving bowl.
