%20and%20set%20myself%20for%20a%20scandalous%20mid-day%20cocktail%20upon%20coming%20home.%20%20No,%20this%20isn%E2%80%99t%20a%20habit.%20%20But%20I%E2%80%99m%20listening%20to%20speakeasy%20music%20from%20the%20roaring%2020s%20and%20I%20can%E2%80%99t%20throw%20this%20delicious%20concoction%20away!%20%20I%20have%20to%20drink%20it!%20%20The%20sacrifices%20we%20make,%20I%20know.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPosting%20the%20cocktail%20%E2%80%93%20the%20first%20beverage%20on%20The%20Dusty%20Baker%20%E2%80%93%20was%20actually%20inspired%20by%20a%20fun%20first%20date%20I%20had%20a%20few%20weeks%20ago.%20%20I%20introduced%20the%20New%20Man%20to%20the%20joy%20that%20is%20putting%20bourbon%20in%20a%20top-notch%20Bloody%20Mary%20instead%20of%20vodka%20(I%20lived%20on%20the%20border%20of%20Kentucky%20while%20working%20at%20a%20theatre%20in%20Cincinnati%20for%20a%20bit%20and%20fell%20in%20love%20with%20bourbon%20distilleries.%20%20And%20bacon.%20And%20bluegrass).%20%20We%20were%20at%20the%20lounge%20in%20the%20Ace%20Hotel,%20which%20has%20a%20delicious%20bar.%20%20I%20had%20a%20feeling%20they%20would%20serve%20up%20a%20good%20Bloody%20Mary.%20%20And,%20in%20my%20dusty%20little%20opinion,%20the%20spicy%20mixture%20of%20tomato,%20horseradish%20and%20citrus%20is%20so%20much%20better%20complimented%20with%20bourbon%20than%20vodka.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENew%20Man%20asked%20the%20mixologist%20if%20he%20had%20heard%20a%20name%20for%20it.%20%20He%20hadn%E2%80%99t.%20%20Googling%20brought%20up%20nothing.%20%20Throughout%20the%20long,%20fun%20getting-to-know-you%20conversation%20we%20came%20up%20with%20a%20few%20options,%20and%20settled%20on%20Bloody%20Derby.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20while%20I%E2%80%99m%20obviously%20not%20the%20first%20to%20put%20bourbon%20in%20a%20Bloody%20Mary,%20you%20heard%20it%20here%20first,%20folks.%20%20September%2028th,%202011.%20%20Spread%20it%20around%20like%20wild-fire.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETalley%20ho.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%20a%20Bloody%20Mary...%20but%20BETTER!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20Bloody%20Derby.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENotes:%20%20There%E2%80%99s%20a%20lot%20of%20%E2%80%9Cto%20tastes%E2%80%9D%20in%20this%20recipe,%20because%20obviously%20a%20lot%20depends%20on%20the%20kind%20of%20tomato%20juice%20you%20use%20and%20how%20generally%20spicy%20you%20like%20your%20cocktails.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%E2%80%99m%20Azorean%20Portuguese%20and%20Italian,%20so%20I%20like%20my%20food%20and%20drinks%20with%20a%20spicy%20kick.%20%20%20I%20started%20with%20halves%20of%20the%20spice%20proportions%20below,%20and%20kept%20adding,%20eventually%20exceeding%20these%20proportions.%20%20And%20if%20you%20want%20it%20a%20bit%20darker,%20throw%20in%20a%20dash%20of%20Worcestershire%20sauce.%20%20I%20just%20don%E2%80%99t%20keep%20it%20on%20hand.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20made%20my%20tomato%20juice%20old-school%20style:%20meaning%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20own%20a%20sieve%20and%20so%20literally%20pressed%20cooked%20tomatoes,%20garlic%20and%20onions%20with%20my%20hands%20through%20a%20strainer.%20%20Worked%20for%20me.%20%20But%20if%20you%20don%E2%80%99t%20want%20to%20make%20your%20own,%20I%20suggest%20either%20something%20rich%20and%20organic%20or%20Clamato,%20which%20is%20what%20is%20usually%20used%20in%20Bloody%20Caesars.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20combo%20makes%20a%20sweet%20and%20dark%20cocktail,%20with%20a%20bit%20of%20smoke.%20%20Big%20fan.%20Welcome%20to%20Kentucky,%20folks.%20Via%20Washington%20Heights.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOh,%20also,%20props%20go%20out%20to%20Rosemarried%20and%20Boulder%20Locavore,%20who%20often%20have%20delicious%20cocktails%20amongst%20their%20incredible%20recipes%20and%20inspire%20me%20to%20want%20to%20start%20paying%20more%20attention%20to%20my%20beverages.%20%20Stop%20by%20to%20see%20their%20versions%20of%20this%20classic%20cocktail%20or%20to%20learn%20how%20to%20flavor%20your%20own%20liquor.%20%20I%E2%80%99m%20a%20big%20fan%20of%20these%20ladies%20%E2%80%93%20please%20show%20them%20some%20love.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E4%20cubes%20ice%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDirections:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMix%20ice,%20tomato%20juice,%20bourbon,%20horseradish,%20garlic,%20salt,%20pepper,%20Tobasco,%20juice%20of%20one%20lemon%20wedge%20and%20juice%20of%20one%20lime%20wedge%20in%20a%20chilled%20glass.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGarnish%20with%20remaining%20citrus,%20celery%20and%20carrot%20sticks,%20and%20sweet%20peppers.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDrink%20with%20brunch%20outdoors,%20while%20listening%20to%20old%20speakeasy%20music,%20or%20when%20perusing%20the%20Sunday%20Times.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
