Ingredients

  • 1/4 stk no lard/non-dairy Margarine
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp Asafoetida spice (also Called Hing) Try an indian food market or possibly Health store
  • 3 c. Washed and liquid removed basmati Rice
  • 5 1/2 c. Water
  • 2 x Cinnamon sticks
  • 1 c. Peas
  • 1 c. Raisins
  • 6 x Cardamom pods
  • 2 Tbsp. Salt

Directions

  1. Place the margarine in a pot over med heat. When melted, add in the pepper and asafoetida
  2. Add in the rice and fry for several min, turning the mix constantly.
  3. In a separate pot, boil the water. Add in the cinnamon, peas, raisins, cardamon pods and salt. When the water boils, add in the rice. Boil for 2 mon, then cover and turn on low heat for 5-8 minutes
  4. Uncover and let stand for 3 minutes. Fluff and serve.
