Yorkshire Pudding Spinach Pie; shopping - grounds for divorce? Recipe

- 1/2 green pepper
- 1 rib celery
- 2 cloves garlic
- 8oz (250gr) frozen, chopped spinach

- 1/2 cup shredded cheese, (2oz, 60gr)
- 2 eggs

- 1/4 tsp salt

.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20nothing%20compares%20to%20trying%20to%20select%20and%20order%20simple%20ceramic%20squares%20-%20or%20rectangles,%20as%20the%20case%20may%20be.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20first%20time%20we%20ordered%20tile%20we%20came%20within%20nanoseconds%20of%20irreconcilable%20differences%20(US%20speak%20for%20divorce)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20second%20time%20we%20ordered%20tiles%20it%20went%20fairly%20well%20-%20other%20than%20that%20little,%20in-store%20math%20break-down%20I%20had.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThinking%20that%20we%20may%20have%20found%20the%20nirvana%20of%20tile%20stores,%20we%20went%20back%20yesterday%20to%20get%20tiles%20for%20the%20second%20bathroom%20upstairs.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20have%202%20boxes%20of%20floor%20tiles%20left%20and%20almost%202%20boxes%20of%20wall%20tiles.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMon%20mari%20suggested%20that%20it%20would%20be%20nice%20if%20I%20could%20find%20some%20way%20of%20using%20them.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20replied%20that%20I%20would%20try.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20didn't%20want%20to%20do%20the%20two%20bathrooms%20in%20identical%20tiles.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMon%20mari%20did%20not,%20does%20not%20and%20never%20will%20understand%20why.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThere%20was%20nothing%20in%20the%20store%20that%20I%20liked%20completely.%20%20I%20liked%20a%20tile%20but%20not%20the%20listel%20(small,%20decorator%20tiles%20used%20for%20accent)%20or%20vice-versa.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20only%20tile%20that%20would%20allow%20us%20to%20use%20our%20existing%20stock%20was%20black.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20hated%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20tried%20to%20work%20with%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20ended%20up%20finding%20small,%20mosaic%20tiles%20that%20would%20work%20with%20the%20black,%20some%20white%20that%20would%20work,%20and%20so%20on.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20fact,%20after%20about%20an%20hour%20of%20piecing%20this%20and%20that%20together,%20I%20had%20a%20look%20a%20really%20liked.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMon%20mari%20was%20happy.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20went%20to%20stand%20in%20line%20to%20order%20the%20tiles.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20it%20was%20finally%20our%20turn,%20I%20explained%20what%20I%20wanted%20and%20the%20nice%20man%20wrote%20up%20the%20order...%20then%20apologized.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThat%20tile%20is%20not%20longer%20available.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENeither%20is%20that%20one%20or%20that%20one.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20begged%20the%20question%20-%20if%20they're%20not%20available%20why%20do%20you%20have%20them%20on%20display?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMon%20mari%20may%20have%20been%20a%20wee%20bit%20miffed.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHe%20kindly%20instructed%20me%20to%20'just%20get%20something'.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFifteen%20minutes%20later%20I%20had%20alternate%20choices,%20not%20wonderful,%20but%20workable.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20was%20desperate.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHe%20didn't%20like%20them.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E(I%20have%20a%20hard%20time%20with%20the%20'get%20anything,%20I%20don't%20care'%20immediately%20followed%20by%20the%20'but%20not%20that,%20I%20don't%20like%20it'%20-%20It%20was%20almost%205pm%20though,%20bit%20of%20a%20long%20day)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20went%20to%20another%20store.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20went%20in%20alone.%20(He%20was%20looking%20for%20ceiling%20boards%20-%20which%20he%20hadn't%20been%20able%20to%20find%20in%203%20other%20stores...%20I'm%20sure%20that%20didn't%20add%20to%20his%20frustration%20a%20bit).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHe%20was%20lucky%20I%20went%20in%20alone,%20because%20they%20had%20nothing%20but%20various%20dark%20brown,%20gray%20and%20black%20shades%20of%20the%20tile%20he%20didn't%20like.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20must%20admit%20I%20was%20cursing%20him,%20quietly,%20of%20course,%20for%20not%20letting%20me%20buy%20the%20identical%20ugly%20tiles%20an%20hour%20earlier.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20persevered.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20looked%20at%20every%20single%20tile,%20carefully,%20to%20determine%20if%20it%20was%20at%20all%20usable.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20it%20turns%20out,%20my%20efforts%20at%20the%20previous%20store%20paid%20off.%20%20I%20was%20much%20more%20creative%20in%20my%20approach,%20not%20being%20hampered%20at%20all%20by%20what%20the%20manufacturer%20thought%20should%20work%20together.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBy%20the%20time%20mon%20mari%20found%20me%20I%20was%20positively%20giddy%20with%20delight%20(or%20was%20it%20exhaustion?).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20managed%20to%20cobble%20together%20wall%20and%20floor%20tiles,%20with%20some%20really%20interesting%20accent%20tiles%20tying%20them%20together.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd....%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENot%20only%20was%20everything%20available%20to%20be%20ordered%20(nothing%20is%20ever,%20ever%20in%20stock)%20it%20was%20on%20sale!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20really%20hope%20I%20like%20it%20when%20I%20see%20it%20with%20clear%20eyes%20in%20the%20daylight.....%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20two%20weeks.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20mon%20mari%20found%20his%20ceiling%20boards.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20drove%20home%20content%20with%20our%20days%20work.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhat%20does%20one%20eat%20after%20a%20long,%20long%20day%20of%20driving%20and%20shopping?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESomething%20easy%20that%20allows%20one%20to%20enjoy%20the%20much%20needed%20glass%20of%20wine%20while%20it%20cooks.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20is%20a%20savoroy%20pie,%20filled%20with%20peppers,%20onions%20and%20spinach.%20I%20used%20a%20bit%20of%20sausage%20but%20you%20could%20easily%20use%20cooked%20chicken,%20beef%20or%20ham;%20just%20not%20too%20much%20or%20it%20won't%20'puff'%20properly.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYorkshire%20Pudding%20Pie%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPeel%20and%20chop%20onion,%20garlic.%20Chop%20pepper,%20celery.%20Heat%202%20tsp%20olive%20oil%20in%20medium%20nonstick%20skillet%20over%20medium-high%20heat.%20Add%20onion,%20pepper,%20celery,%20garlic%20and%20saut%C3%A9%20until%20tender.%20Add%20sausage%20and%20brown,%20breaking%20it%20up%20as%20it%20cooks.%20When%20done%20remove%20from%20heat.%20Thaw%20spinach%20and%20squeeze%20dry.%20Add%20to%20meat%20mixture%20along%20with%20basil%20and%20mix%20thoroughly.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESlice%20tomatoes%20thinly:%205%20-%207%20slices%20per%20tomato.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20medium%20bowl%20lightly%20beat%20eggs%20with%20wire%20whisk.%20Add%20milk,%20flour,%20salt%20and%20nutmeg.%20Beat%20lightly%20to%20just%20combine;%20a%20few%20lumps%20are%20okay%20-%20over-beating%20is%20not.%20Put%20remaining%202%20tsp%20olive%20oil%20in%2010-inch%20glass%20baking%20dish%20and%20run%20it%20around%20to%20coat%20the%20bottom.%20Pour%20in%20the%20batter%20mixture.%20Spoon%20meat/spinach%20mixture%20over%20top%20to%20within%201%20inch%20of%20sides%20of%20dish.%20Layer%20tomatoes%20on%20top%20of%20meat%20and%20sprinkle%20with%20cheese.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBake%20at%20425F%20(215C)%20for%2030%20minutes%20or%20until%20edges%20puff%20up%20and%20are%20golden%20brown.%20Cut%20into%20wedges%20and%20serve.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENow%20I'd%20better%20put%20pencil%20to%20paper%20and%20make%20sure%20I%20ordered%20enough%20tile...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMon%20mari%20just%20remembered%20that%20he%20forgot%20to%20tell%20me%20we%20need%20some%20for%20the%20tub%20surround...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20see%20another%20glass%20of%20wine%20in%20my%20future.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
