,%20but%20I'm%20loving%20having%20them%20for%20breakfast.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOne%20of%20the%20reasons%20I%20never%20entirely%20jumped%20on%20the%20smoothie-a-day%20bandwagon%20was%20because%20I%20don't%20like%20to%20clean%20the%20blender.%20SERIOUSLY!%20I%20mean,%20how%20lazy%20can%20you%20get,%20right?%20Last%20year%20I%20discovered%20(again,%20apparently%20this%20was%20only%20news%20to%20ME)%20the%20mason%20jar%20blender%20trick,%20which%20helped%20a%20lot;%20using%20mason%20jars%20means%20I%20only%20have%20to%20wash%20the%20blender%20blade%20--%20the%20jars%20can%20go%20right%20in%20the%20dishwasher.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBooyah!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnother%20reason%20I%20wasn't%20fully%20embracing%20smoothies?%20Smoothie%20prep.%20I%20never%20seemed%20to%20have%20the%20right%20ingredients%20on%20hand%20when%20I%20really%20wanted%20a%20smoothie%20--%20namely%20because%20they%20always%20seem%20to%20call%20for%20milk%20or%20yogurt%20or%20some%20other%20dairy%20product%20I%20didn't%20have%20in%20the%20fridge.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20one%20of%20my%20new%20favorite%20tips%20for%20making%20smoothies%20easier%20is%20nutmilk%20ice.%20(Again,%20if%20this%20is%20not%20news%20to%20anyone%20but%20me,%20keep%20it%20to%20yourself%20and%20let%20me%20have%20my%20little%20moment%20of%20glee,%20mmmmkay?)%20By%20freezing%20my%20favorite%20nutmilks%20into%20ice,%20I%20kill%20two%20birds%20with%20one%20stone%20--%20nutmilk%20ice%20makes%20the%20perfect%20substitute%20for%20ice%20and/or%20milk%20in%20my%20favorite%20smoothies.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EA%20simple%20ice%20cube%20tray%20works%20fine,%20but%20I%20prefer%20silicone%20molds%20--%20they're%20very%20flexible,%20so%20the%20ice%20is%20easy%20to%20pop%20out%20once%20it's%20frozen.%20I%20got%20the%20cube%20mold%20(pictured)%20at%20Target,%20but%20I%20also%20use%20silicon%20cupcake%20liners%20(each%20one%20holds%201/4%20cup%20of%20nutmilk).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20don't%20forget%20it's%20ridiculously%20easy%20to%20make%20your%20own%20nutmilk!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESince%20I've%20learned%20some%20valuable%20tricks%20and%20time-saving%20lessons%20this%20month%20by%20making%20so%20many%20smoothies,%20I%20thought%20I'd%20share%20them%20all%20with%20you%20--%20and%20then%20share%20my%20favorite%20smoothie%20recipes%20later%20this%20week.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHence,%20Smoothie%20Week!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20get%20started,%20check%20out%20my%20top%205%20smoothie%20tips,%20tricks%20and%20timesavers%20to%20help%20you%20make%20the%20best%20smoothies%20ever%20--%20then%20check%20back%20later%20in%20the%20week%20for%20some%20delicious%20and%20healthy%20smoothie%20recipes%20(including%20one%20you%20can%20share%20with%20your%20dog!!).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20if%20you%20have%20any%20other%20tips,%20tell%20me%20about%20them%20in%20a%20comment%20below:%20The%20Ninj%20wants%20to%20know.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E5%20Smoothie%20Tips,%20Tricks%20and%20Timesavers%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1.%20Stockpile%20Nutmilk%20or%20Other%20Flavored%20Ice%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20I%20mentioned%20above,%20simply%20fill%20ice%20cube%20trays%20or%20silicone%20molds%20with%20your%20favorite%20nutmilk%20(or%20try%20making%20your%20own!)%20and%20freeze.%20Pop%20the%20ice%20out%20of%20the%20molds%20and%20store%20it%20in%20a%20container%20in%20the%20freezer.%20Just%20be%20sure%20to%20make%20a%20note%20of%20how%20many%20ounces%20each%20of%20your%20molds%20holds%20so%20that%20if%20a%20recipe%20calls%20for%20a%20specific%20amount%20of%20nutmilk,%20you'll%20know%20exactly%20how%20much%20milk%20ice%20you%20can%20substitute.%20And%20if%20you're%20not%20a%20fan%20of%20nutmilk%20in%20your%20smoothies,%20freeze%20cubes%20of%20coconut%20water%20or%20fresh%20fruit%20juice%20instead.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2.%20Slice%20Fresh%20Fruit%20for%20Freezing%20Uniformly%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFruit%20like%20bananas%20and%20peaches%20are%20best%20frozen%20on%20trays%20in%20slices%20and%20then%20stored%20in%20an%20airtight%20bag%20or%20container%20so%20that%20you%20only%20use%20as%20much%20as%20you%20need.%20However,%20if%20a%20smoothie%20recipe%20calls%20for%20%221%20banana%22%20instead%20of,%20for%20example,%20%221/2%20cup%20sliced%20banana%22,%20you%20might%20not%20know%20how%20much%20banana%20to%20use!%20I%20make%20sure%20that%20I%20always%20slice%20my%20bananas%20into%20the%20exact%20same%20number%20of%20slices%20(12)%20so%20that%20I%20know%20just%20how%20many%20slices%20equal%20one%20full%20banana.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3.%20Use%20Good%20Freezer%20Bags%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20can't%20say%20this%20enough:%20your%20frozen%20fruit%20or%20veg%20is%20only%20as%20good%20as%20its%20container.%20I've%20tried%20them%20all%20and%20the%20absolute%20best%20are%20FreshSaver's%20vacuum%20zipper%20bags.%20The%20vacuum%20gadget%20is%20inexpensive%20(and%20comes%20with%20a%20starter%20set%20of%20bags)%20--%20additional%20bags%20are%20readily%20available%20at%20Target,%20Bed%20Bath%20and%20Beyond,%20even%20some%20grocery%20stores%20(my%20local%20Kroger%20carries%20them!).%20The%20beauty%20of%20these%20zipper%20bags,%20compared%20with%20regular%20ziplock%20bags,%20is%20that%20you%20can%20re-vacuum%20seal%20them%20after%20you%20open%20them%20to%20remove%20some%20fruit.%20They%20can%20be%20sealed%20and%20re-sealed%20a%20whole%20bunch%20of%20times.%20No%20more%20icy%20build-up%20or%20freezer%20burn%20on%20your%20beautiful%20frozen%20fruit!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E4.%20Make%20Your%20Own%20Greens%20Powder%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdding%20green%20/%20chlorella%20powder%20to%20your%20smoothies%20is%20a%20great%20way%20to%20amp%20up%20the%20nutrition%20--%20you%20can%20cram%20in%20a%20whole%20bunch%20of%20servings%20of%20vegetables%20into%20just%20one%20smoothie!%20But%20those%20powders%20can%20be%20awfully%20pricey.%20So%20I%20bet%20you%20can%20see%20where%20I'm%20going%20with%20this:%20%20%20Make%20your%20own%20green%20powder%20instead,%20for%20just%20a%20fraction%20of%20the%20cost!%20Just%20use%20kale%20or%20spinach%20and%20follow%20my%20instructions%20for%20making%20your%20own%20kale%20powder.%20Store%20in%20an%20airtight%20container%20and%20add%20a%20scoopful%20to%20your%20next%20green%20smoothie.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E5.%20Blend%20Coarse%20Ingredients%20First%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EUnless%20you're%20using%20a%20high-powered%20blender%20like%20Vitamix%20or%20BlendTec%20(if%20you%20are,%20lucky%20you!),%20be%20sure%20to%20blend%20any%20hard%20or%20coarse%20ingredients%20--%20nuts,%20dried%20fruits,%20oats,%20etc.%20--%20first%20with%20a%20little%20of%20the%20liquid%20your%20recipe%20calls%20for,%20and%20then%20add%20the%20remaining%20liquid,%20frozen%20fruit%20and/or%20ice.%20This%20will%20prevent%20chunks%20and%20bits%20from%20remaining%20unblended%20and%20making%20your%20smoothie,%20well,%20less%20than%20smooth.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ewww.yankeekitchenninja.com%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
