I was put in charge of the Christmas decorations for our ward (church congregation) Christmas party. I had to come up with 30 centerpieces for basically no cost. Kind of a daunting challenge, no? I came up with Wrapping Paper Christmas Trees. While unpacking my Christmas decorations, I came across my fabric Christmas trees, and figured I could make them even cheaper by using paper. Then while at the Dollar Store, I saw all the pretty Christmas wrapping paper, and the idea was born.
At the actual party, the tablecloths were white, so I used colored napkins under the trees instead of doilies. But I really like the doilies better. Instead of sprinkling confetti around the trees, I opted for M&M’s. I knew that with 100+ kids running…

%20Christmas%20party.%20I%20had%20to%20come%20up%20with%2030%20centerpieces%20for%20basically%20no%20cost.%20Kind%20of%20a%20daunting%20challenge,%20no?%20I%20came%20up%20with%20Wrapping%20Paper%20Christmas%20Trees.%20While%20unpacking%20my%20Christmas%20decorations,%20I%20came%20across%20my%20fabric%20Christmas%20trees,%20and%20figured%20I%20could%20make%20them%20even%20cheaper%20by%20using%20paper.%20Then%20while%20at%20the%20Dollar%20Store,%20I%20saw%20all%20the%20pretty%20Christmas%20wrapping%20paper,%20and%20the%20idea%20was%20born.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAt%20the%20actual%20party,%20the%20tablecloths%20were%20white,%20so%20I%20used%20colored%20napkins%20under%20the%20trees%20instead%20of%20doilies.%20But%20I%20really%20like%20the%20doilies%20better.%20Instead%20of%20sprinkling%20confetti%20around%20the%20trees,%20I%20opted%20for%20M&M%E2%80%99s.%20I%20knew%20that%20with%20100+%20kids%20running%20around,%20that%20would%20mean%20no%20clean-up!%20Confession:%20The%20night%20of%20the%20party,%20things%20were%20so%20crazy%20that%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20actually%20remember%20to%20put%20the%20M&M%E2%80%99s%20out.%20I%20had%20several%20people%20come%20up%20to%20me%20that%20night%20and%20ask%20how%20I%20made%20these%20trees,%20so%20thankfully%20I%20took%20photos%20along%20the%20way!%20They%20really%20are%20simple%20to%20make,%20and%20they%20come%20together%20pretty%20quickly.%20But%20if%20you%20have%20to%20make%2090%20trees,%20you%20are%20going%20to%20need%20some%20help.%20I%20spent%20over%2010%20hours,%20and%20that%20was%20with%20help%20from%20several%20of%20my%20YW%20leaders!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHow%20To%20Make%20Wrapping%20Paper%20Trees%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESupplies:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E-Free%20cone%20pattern%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E-Scissors%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E-Glue%20sticks%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E-Hot%20glue%20gun%20and%20glue%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E-Ruler%20and%20pencil%20if%20you%20are%20using%20non-grid%20wrapping%20paper%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EInstructions:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1-%20Cut%20out%20all%20your%20strips%20of%20paper.%20I%20found%20it%20much%20more%20efficient%20to%20cut%20multiple%20strips%20of%20wrapping%20paper%20at%20the%20same%20time.%20Here%E2%80%99s%20how%20I%20did%20it:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECut%206-7%20pieces%20of%20wrapping%20paper%20that%20are%20all%20approximately%20the%20same%20width.%20(Your%20cut%20lines%20don%E2%80%99t%20need%20to%20be%20perfectly%20straight.)%20%20If%20you%20don%E2%80%99t%20have%20the%20grid%20paper,%20you%20need%20to%20make%201%E2%80%B3%20lines%20across%20the%20length%20of%20the%20paper.%20Starting%20on%20one%20of%20the%20straight%20side%20edges,%20use%20a%20yardstick%20to%20mark%201%E2%80%B3%20lines%20across%20one%20of%20the%20pieces%20of%20wrapping%20paper.%20Stack%20all%20the%20pieces%20with%20the%20marked%20piece%20on%20top,%20and%20the%20straight%20edges%20lined%20up%20evenly.%20Use%20clothes%20pins%20to%20secure%20the%20pieces%20of%20wrapping%20paper%20together.%20Now%20you%20can%20cut%20through%20several%20pieces%20at%20once,%20saving%20yourself%20lots%20of%20time!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20photo%20shows%20my%20wrapping%20paper%20after%20I%20had%20already%20cut%20half%20of%20the%20strips.%20I%20also%20have%20clothes%20pins%20at%20the%20top%20end,%20you%20just%20can%E2%80%99t%20see%20them.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2-After%20you%20have%20all%20your%20long%20strips%20of%20paper%20cut,%20trim%20them%20down%20so%20they%20are%204%201/2%E2%80%B3%20long.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3-Now%20use%20a%20glue%20stick%20to%20glue%20the%20ends%20together,%20forming%20a%20bunch%20of%20little%20loops.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E4-%20To%20form%20your%20cone%20base,%20draw%20a%20quarter%20circle%20onto%20lightweight%20paper%20or%20cardstock.%20Cardstock%20is%20a%20little%20more%20sturdy,%20but%20it%E2%80%99s%20also%20a%20little%20harder%20to%20form%20into%20a%20cone.%20Use%20whichever%20one%20you%20prefer.%20For%20the%20smaller%20tree,%20make%20a%20cone%20that%20is%207%E2%80%B3%20from%20tip%20to%20end,%20for%20the%20larger%20tree,%20make%20it%208%201/2%E2%80%B3.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERoll%20it%20up%20into%20a%20cone%20shape%20and%20hot%20glue%20along%20the%20edge.%20It%E2%80%99s%20OK%20if%20it%20isn%E2%80%99t%20perfect.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E5-%20Starting%20at%20the%20bottom,%20use%20hot%20glue%20to%20attach%20the%20loops%20to%20your%20cone.%20Overlap%20the%20loops%20a%20bit%20so%20that%20the%20cone%20doesn%E2%80%99t%20show%20through.%20I%20found%20it%20easiest%20to%20put%20the%20glue%20on%20the%20end%20of%20the%20loop,%20but%20some%20of%20my%20friends%20preferred%20putting%20the%20glue%20on%20the%20cone%20and%20sticking%20the%20loop%20to%20it.%20Use%20whichever%20method%20you%20prefer!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E6-%20Attach%20the%20second%20row%20of%20loops%20the%20same%20way,%20letting%20them%20hang%20over%20the%20bottom%20loops%20about%201/4%E2%80%B3.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E7-%20Add%20layer%20%233:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E8-%20On%20the%20top%20layer,%20I%20like%20to%20wrap%20the%20paper%20tightly%20around%20the%20cone%20so%20it%20makes%20a%20better%20tip.%20%20For%20this%20tutorial,%20I%20showed%20the%20smaller%20tree.%20The%20larger%20one
