.%20Pressed%20closely%20together%20at%20a%20small%20table%20in%20front%20of%20the%20stage,%20we%20wiled%20away%20the%20hours,%20soaking%20in%20the%20dulcet%20tones%20of%20Kevin%20Mahogany%20or%20another%20headliner.%20As%20the%20last%20set%20finished,%20giddy%20from%20a%20few%20cocktails,%20we%20tumbled%20onto%20the%20subway%20headed%20to%20uptown%20to%20our%20apartment,%20walking%20the%20last%20few%20blocks%20to%20our%20apartment%20in%20a%20relatively%20quiet%20enclave%20of%20the%20city.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESince%20having%20kids,%20Valentine%E2%80%99s%20Day%20has%20changed.%20That%E2%80%99s%20not%20a%20bad%20thing.%20It%E2%80%99s%20just%20different.%20Rather%20than%20the%20anticipation%20of%20an%20indulgent%20candlelit%20dinner,%20the%20week%20leading%20up%20to%20February%2014th%20is%20filled%20with%20decorating%20Valentine%E2%80%99s%20boxes%20and%20writing%20cards%20for%20classmates%20for%20the%20school%20parties,%20and%20trading%20conversation%20hearts.%20Yesterday,%20my%206-year%20old%20son%20presented%20me%20with%20a%20candy%20heart%20that%20said,%20%E2%80%9CLove%20Bug%E2%80%9D.%20Speaking%20as%20a%20mum,%20it%20just%20doesn%E2%80%99t%20get%20any%20better%20than%20that.%20My%20husband%20and%20I%20will%20have%20to%20pick%20another%20time%20to%20paint%20the%20town%20red%20and%20dine%20by%20candlelight.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20so,%20these%20cookies%20are%20for%20my%20boys%20(my%20husband,%20too).%20The%20inspiration%20came%20from%20my%20friend,%20Jenny%20of%20the%20popular%20recipe%20blog,%20Picky%20Palate.%20She%20is%20the%20queen%20of%20filling%20cookies%20with%20an%20array%20of%20chocolate%20bars%20and%20other%20treats.%20Just%20the%20other%20day,%20she%20sandwiched%20a%20brownie%20inside%20cookie%20dough%20and%20baked%20it.%20Sounds%20crazy,%20but%20looks%20fantastic!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20this%20cookie,%20I%20used%20my%20favorite%20sugar%20cookie%20recipe,%20which%20I%20first%20introduced%20here%20in%20my%20Heath%20Bar%20Chocolate%20&%20Toffee%20Cookie%20recipe.%20This%20time,%20however,%20I%20omitted%20the%20Heath%20Bars%20and%20tucked%20a%20piece%20of%20caramel%20chocolate%20bar%20inside%20of%20each%20cookie.%20After%20their%20first%20bite,%20the%20boys%20swore%20I%20was%20their%20one%20and%20only%20Valentine.%20Now%20that%20makes%20my%20heart%20go%20pitter%20pat.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20recipe:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20an%20oven%20rack%20in%20the%20middle%20position%20and%20preheat%20the%20oven%20to%20350%20degrees%20F.%20Line%202%20large%20baking%20sheets%20with%20parchment%20paper.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20medium%20bowl,%20whisk%20together%20flour,%20baking%20powder,%20and%20salt.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20large%20bowl,%20beat%20butter%20and%20sugar%20with%20an%20electric%20mixer%20set%20on%20medium%20speed%20until%20the%20mixture%20is%20creamy%20and%20fluffy,%203%20to%205%20minutes.%20Beat%20in%20eggs,%20one%20at%20a%20time,%20and%20vanilla%20extract.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETurn%20the%20mixer%20to%20low%20speed%20and%20gradually%20beat%20in%20the%20flour%20mixture%20until%20it%20is%20just%20combined.%20Using%20a%20rubber%20spatula,%20stir%20the%20mixture%20a%20few%20times%20to%20make%20sure%20all%20of%20the%20flour%20mixture%20is%20incorporated.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%201/2%20cup%20granulated%20sugar%20in%20a%20small%20bowl.%20Use%202%20tablespoons%20cookie%20dough%20for%20each%20cookie.%20Split%20the%20piece%20of%20dough%20in%20half,%20slightly%20flatten%20the%20bottom%20half,%20place%20a%20square%20of%20chocolate%20caramel%20bar%20on%20top,%20and%20cover%20with%20the%20other%20piece%20of%20cookie%20dough.%20Seal%20the%20edges%20with%20your%20fingers.%20Roll%20the%20ball%20in%20the%20sugar%20to%20coat%20it%20and%20place%20it%20on%20a%20prepared%20baking%20sheet.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBake%20the%20cookies,%20one%20sheet%20a%20time,%20rotating%20from%20front%20to%20back%20halfway%20through%20baking.%20They%20are%20done%20when%20the%20edges%20are%20set%20and%20beginning%20to%20brown,%2010%20to%2013%20minutes.%20The%20centers%20of%20the%20cookies%20should%20still%20be%20soft%20and%20puffy.%20Remove%20the%20cookies%20from%20the%20oven%20and%20let%20them%20cool%20on%20the%20baking%20sheet%20for%2010%20minutes.%20Using%20a%20spatula,%20remove%20the%20cookies%20from%20the%20baking%20sheet%20and%20let%20cool%20on%20a%20rack.%20Serve.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20an%20oven%20rack%20in%20the%20middle%20position%20and%20preheat%20the%20oven%20to%20350%20degrees%20F.%20Line%202%20large%20baking%20sheets%20with%20parchment%20paper.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20medium%20bowl,%20whisk%20together%20flour,%20baking%20powder,%20and%20salt.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20large%20bowl,%20beat%20butter%20and%201%201/2%20cups%20granulated%20sugar%20with%20an%20electric%20mixer%20set%20on%20medium%20speed%20until%20the%20mixture%20is%20creamy%20and%20fluffy,%203%20to%205%20minutes.%20Beat%20in%20the%20eggs,%20one%20at%20a%20time,%20and%20the%20vanilla%20extract.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETurn%20the%20mixer%20to%20low%20speed%20and%20gradually%20beat%20in%20the%20flour%20mixture%20until%20it%2
