%20I%20knew%20that%20they%20shared%20some%20of%20the%20elements%20that%20make%20blood%20oranges%20so%20desired%20yet%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20recall%20I%20had%20experienced%20them%20before.%20Wow%E2%80%A6not%20that%20I%20will%20abandon%20my%20love%20for%20blood%20oranges%20but%20these%20are%20also%20amazing.%20A%20brighter%20pinker/peach%20color%20and%20definitely%20sweeter%20than%20regular%20navel%20oranges,%20I%20juiced%20a%20dozen%20of%20them%20and%20I%20honestly%20think%20I%20could%20have%20downed%20that%20entire%20pitcher%E2%80%A6SO%20good.%20Find%20some%20for%20%20yourself%20stat!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20I%20was%20asked%20by%20the%20folks%20with%20Dewar%E2%80%99s%20if%20I%20would%20like%20to%20try%20their%20Scotch;%20I%20was%20a%20bit%20perplexed.%20I%E2%80%99ve%20always%20thought%20of%20Scotch%20as%20a%20man%E2%80%99s%20drink%20I%E2%80%99ll%20admit%E2%80%A6with%20only%20three%20cocktails%20that%20it%20works%20with.%20Straight%20up,%20on%20the%20rocks%20or%20with%20a%20touch%20of%20soda.%20Something%20about%20Scotch%20leads%20us%20to%20think%20men,%20clubs%20and%20cigars%20doesn%E2%80%99t%20it?%20So%20I%20had%20to%20do%20some%20research%20because%20I%20thought%20a%20post%20deserved%20more%20than%20just:%201.%20Fill%20a%20glass%20with%20ice.%202.%20Pour%20some%20Scotch%20over%20it.%20I%E2%80%99m%20not%20alone%20apparently,%20as%20the%20Blood%20and%20Sand%20is%20widely%20recognized%20as%20one%20of%20the%20few%20cocktails%20that%20includes%20Scotch%20in%20the%20mix.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDewar%E2%80%99s,%20now%20owned%20by%20Bacardi,%20has%20a%20long%20history,%20first%20arriving%20in%20the%20United%20States%20in%201891%20when%20Andrew%20Carnegie%20sent%20a%20small%20cask%20to%20then-president%20Benjamin%20Harrison.%20Before%20starting%20his%20own%20blended%20Scotch%20brand,%20John%20Dewar%20sold%20wine%20and%20whiskey%20in%20Scotland;%20their%20Dewar%E2%80%99s%20White%20Label%20has%20proven%20to%20be%20the%20company%E2%80%99s%20most%20popular%20blended%20Scotch%20Whiskey%20over%20the%20past%20100%20years;%20it%E2%80%99s%20venerable%20sure%20but%20the%20company%20is%20reaching%20out%20and%20trying%20to%20change%20perception;%20witness%20the%20ads%20appearing%20lately%20with%20Claire%20Forlani%20as%20a%20Scottish%20temptress!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20cocktail%20is%20a%20kick%E2%80%A6with%20the%20cherry%20liqueur%20and%20orange%20juice%20making%20a%20nice%20foil%20to%20the%20strength%20of%20the%20Scotch%20and%20I%20actually%20liked%20it%20very%20much.%20It%20is%20definitely%20what%20I%20would%20describe%20as%20a%20%E2%80%98big%20girl%20drink%E2%80%99%20%E2%80%93%20not%20one%20for%20those%20who%20would%20normally%20prefer%20my%20S%E2%80%99More%E2%80%99s%20Martini!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20I%20first%20decided%20to%20make%20this%20cocktail,%20I%20sort%20of%20ignored%20that%20my%20bar%20book%20called%20for%20Cherry%20Heering%20liqueur.%20I%20knew%20I%20had%20a%20Kirschwasser%20(Kirsch)%20in%20my%20liquor%20cabinet%20but%20when%20I%20started%20to%20dig%20further%20into%20the%20ingredients%20and%20history,%20I%20found%20one%20thing%20repeated%20over%20and%20over.%20Do%20not%20substitute%20a%20cherry%20brandy%20like%20Kirsch%20for%20the%20Cherry%20Heering.%20Great;%20my%20plans%20were%20completely%20dashed.%20Still,%20I%20found%20the%20Cheery%20Heering%20and%20am%20sort%20of%20glad%20it%20worked%20out%20that%20I%20had%20to%20use%20it;%20I%20love%20this%20liqueur.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESince%201818%20Cherry%20Heering%20has%20been%20made%20only%20with%20natural%20ingredients,%20including%20elderberry%20extract%20and%20Danish%20grown%20cherries%20and%20have%20no%20artificial%20flavor%20or%20colors.%20It%E2%80%99s%20a%20%20is%20a%20ruby-red%20liqueur%20made%20by%20soaking%20lightly%20crushed%20Danish%20cherries%20and%20a%20blend%20of%20spices%20in%20neutral%20grain%20spirits,%20then%20cask-maturing%20the%20mixture%20for%20up%20to%20five%20years,%20adding%20sugar%20during%20the%20aging%20process.%20It%20tastes%20very%20similar%20to%20the%20syrup%20of%20brandied%20cherries;%20so%20what%E2%80%99s%20not%20to%20love?%20%20I%20have%20Luxardo%20Maraschino%20liqueur%20in%20my%20stock%20but%20found%20that%20the%20two%20are%20very%20different.%20%20The%20Luxardo%20(32%25%20abv;%2064%20proof)%20is%20higher%20in%20alcohol%20than%20Cherry%20Heering%20(24%25%20abv;%2048%20proof),%20so%20it%20not%20as%20sweet%20or%20as%20viscous.%20The%20sweetness%20of%20Cherry%20Heering%20is%20an%20ingredient%20that%20adds%20a%20great%20cherry%20flavor%20but%20also%20serves%20to%20temper%20the%20strength%20of%20the%20other%20ingredients.%20%20Comparing%20Cherry%20Heering%20to%20Kirsch?%20Don%E2%80%99t%20make%20the%20same%20mistake%20I%20almost%20did.%20Kirsch%20is%20an%20unaged,%20unsweetened%20eau%20de%20vie%20made%20by%20distilling%20fermented%20cherries%20and%20the%20result%20is%20a%20clear%20liquid.%20It%20would%20be%20wrong,%20just%20wrong!%20Now%20that%20I%20have%20it%20in%20my%20bar;%20you%E2%80%99ll%20see%20more%20soon;%20did%20I%20say%20I%20love%20this%20liqueur?%3C/p
