KHEER WITH COCONUT (RICE PORRIDGE)

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 liter fresh milk
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. powdered milk
  • 1/4 c. coconut powder or dried grated coconut
  • 1 c. ground rice
  • 1 tsp. vanilla essence
  • 1 tbsp. chopped pistachios
  • 1 tbsp. chopped almonds

Time: 10 minutes prep, 40 minutes cook
Servings: 10
 

Directions

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a saucepan. Mix well.
  2. Simmer for 30-40 minutes, continue stirring until the mixture thickens. Cool.
  3. Refrigerate. Serve cold.

This is a traditional Indian dessert. Champorado, rice porridge with cocoa, is the Filipino version of this dish. Muhallabia, Arabic rice pudding, is very much similar with this dessert.
