French Toast with Splash of Citrus

Unique gourmet variation of French Toast. Can be eaten with maple syrup but good enough to eat alone. Can be made the morning of or soaked overnight maximum absorption.

Ingredients

  • 6 eggs
  • 1 orange
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 3 tbs sugar
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 loaf French Bread
  • 3 tbs butter
  • Powdered sugar
  • Maple Syrup if desired

Directions

  1. Beat eggs in large bowl
  2. Finely grate peel of the orange and add to bowl
  3. Juice orange into separate container & add 2/3 cup juice to bowl
  4. Add milk, sugar, vanilla and salt and mix well
  5. Slice bread into 8 3/4 inch slices
  6. Dip bread slices into egg mixture until mixture is absorbed
  7. Melt butter in large skillet over medium-high heat
  8. Add bread slices in batches and cook until brown, about 8 minutes
  9. Turn and continue cooking until browned, about 8 minutes
  10. Slice bread, arrange on platter & sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve
