We're split pea soup fans and have a number of recipes. But we've never tried it in our slow cooker before. This simple recipe turned out wonderfully. If you're looking for a classic, flavorful split pea soup, this will more than do the trick.

It's hard to go wrong with split pea soup, but this was really fantastic. It was an unusually cold day and I was coming in from the cold, so that may have made this taste even more special. While it is very flavorful, I sprinkled Sumac and Tony Chachere's creole seasoning on top. If you haven't tried Sumac before, it's something that Iranian's sprinkle on many of their soups and other dishes. It has a nice flavor that I can't quite put my finger on, but I think it complements split pea and lentil soups very nicely.
    I've cooked/tasted this recipe!

Going to make the soup this week with ham and yellow peas. I was hoping the crock pot would work for this one. Thanks.

I made this last night, and it was delicious. Right as I was serving, I placed seasoned croutons to each bowl of soup. This is one of my favorites.

I used turkey bacon instead of ham and tastes great!
