Ingredients

  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 1/2 cups flour, divided
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 4 Tbsp. cold butter
  • 3/4 tsp. salt

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.
  2. In a bowl, combine 2 cups of flour with baking powder, baking soda and salt. Stir well.
  3. Slice the butter into a few pats. Add it to the flour mixture. Using your hands, mash the butter into the flour mixture until evenly combined. It should have a sandy texture.
  4. Stir in the buttermilk just until the mixture is wet. It should be wet and sticky.
  5. Flour the countertop. Put the dough on the counter and sprinkle it with a little flour. Pat it down until it is about 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch thick.
  6. Grab a round cookie cutter, a biscuit cutter or a glass and cut biscuits out of the dough. Place the cut biscuits onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Roll the remaining dough into a ball and continue to pat and cut biscuits until there is no dough left.
  8. Bake biscuits for 15 minutes until they are a nice golden brown.
