Hidden on Peter's Hill, nine miles north from the town of Monticello, is the entrance to Roughlock RV Park which includes the Line Camp Steak House and Runnin' Iron Inn. The entrance is found simply by catching sight of the large white sign, and huge wooden fence post gate. As you travel the unpaved road upward, the scenery around you is of high rock walls and trees of pinon, cedar and oak. At the parking lot, a road goes off to the left for the RV, camping and cabin area; the restaurant and inn are directly in front of you.

%20587-2351%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWebsite:%20http://www.canyonlandsbestkeptsecret.com/%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHidden%20on%20Peter's%20Hill,%20nine%20miles%20north%20from%20the%20town%20of%20Monticello,%20is%20the%20entrance%20to%20Roughlock%20RV%20Park%20which%20includes%20the%20Line%20Camp%20Steak%20House%20and%20Runnin'%20Iron%20Inn.%20%20The%20entrance%20is%20found%20simply%20by%20catching%20sight%20of%20the%20large%20white%20sign,%20and%20huge%20wooden%20fence%20post%20gate.%20%20As%20you%20travel%20the%20unpaved%20road%20upward,%20the%20scenery%20around%20you%20is%20of%20high%20rock%20walls%20and%20trees%20of%20pinon,%20cedar%20and%20oak.%20%20At%20the%20parking%20lot,%20a%20road%20goes%20off%20to%20the%20left%20for%20the%20RV,%20camping%20and%20cabin%20area;%20the%20restaurant%20and%20inn%20are%20directly%20in%20front%20of%20you.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20owners%20of%20this%20hidden%20location%20are%20Bob%20Musselman%20and%20his%20wife,%20who%20were%20not%20there%20the%20evening%20we%20dined%20in;%20we%20were%20greeted%20by%20a%20lovely%20lady%20named%20Kim,%20who%20also%20doubled%20as%20our%20waitress.%20%20%20Reservations%20are%20preferred,%20but%20walk-in%20are%20very%20welcome;%20we%20were%20seated%20and%20wished%20a%20%22Happy%20Anniversary%22,%20since%20I%20did%20mention%20it%20was%20our%20anniversary%20dinner%20when%20I%20made%20the%20reservation.%20%20There%20were%20two%20other%20couples%20dining%20there;%20we%20chatted%20with%20the%20nearby%20couple%20and%20they%20definitely%20loved%20the%20meal%20they%20had%20just%20eaten;%20a%20good%20sign.%20%20The%20interior%20of%20the%20restaurant%20is%20Old%20West%20and%20hunting%20trophies%20of%20the%20local%20mule%20deer%20and%20elk%20populations%20watch%20over%20the%20diners.%20%20There%20is%20a%20small%20bar%20area;%20the%20restaurant%20will%20obtain%20their%20Utah%20state%20liquor%20license%20this%20month%20(October%202013).%20%20The%20tables%20are%20beautifully%20set%20which,%20with%20the%20interior%20decor,%20helps%20define%20the%20cuisine%20served,%20%22Old%20West%20Fine%20Dining%22.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20began%20the%20meal%20with%20the%20only%20appetizer%20offered,%20Shrimp%20Cocktail;%20and%20since%20Utah%20is%20a%20landlocked%20state%20where%20fresh%20seafood%20is%20unavailable,%20I%20wondered%20how%20the%20shrimp%20would%20fare.%20%20Unfortunately,%20not%20well,%20as%20while%20they%20were%20five%20large%20shrimp,%20they%20were%20over%20chilled%20and%20chewy;%20the%20cocktail%20sauce%20(not%20house%20made)%20was%20spicy%20with%20horseradish%20and%20delicious%20with%20the%20lettuce%20underneath%20though.%20%20My%20big%20suggestion%20to%20the%20owner%20is%20forget%20about%20this%20type%20of%20appetizer;%20come%20up,%20instead,%20with%20a%20signature%20dish%20that%20represent%20the%20Line%20Camp%20itself,%20and%20the%20surrounding%20area.%20%20Salad%20is%20part%20of%20the%20meal%20experience%20and%20it%20was%20a%20plateful!%20%20Crisp%20lettuce%20topped%20with%20green%20bell%20pepper,%20red%20onion,%20cucumber,%20tomato,%20black%20olives,%20croutons%20and%20a%20half%20of%20the%20Line%20Camp's%20house%20made%20Deviled%20Eggs%20which%20have%20a%20nice%20surprise...a%20horseradish%20kick%20to%20the%20taste%20buds.%20%20We%20both%20had%20the%20house%20made%20Buttermilk%20Ranch%20dressing;%20this%20dressing%20is%20so%20good,%20you%20want%20to%20lick%20the%20plate%20after%20you%20finish%20the%20salad%20ingredients!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhile%20eating%20our%20salads,%20we%20were%20served%20the%20Special%20Line%20Camp%20Beans%20in%20little%20brown%20pots%20and%20the%20Garlic%20Toast.%20%20The%20beans%20are%20purchased%20locally,%20cooked%20al%20dente%20and%20sit%20in%20a%20broth;%20nothing%20special,%20that%20is%20until%20you%20pair%20them%20with%20the%20Garlic%20Toast.%20%20Thick%20sliced,%20similar%20to%20Italian%20bread%20with%20garlic,%20butter%20and%20herbs;%20whether%20you%20put%20the%20beans%20on%20the%20bread%20to%20make%20an%20Old%20West%20version%20of%20English%20%22beans%20on%20toast%22,%20or%20just%20use%20the%20bread%20to%20soak%20up%20the%20broth;%20it%20was%20a%20good%20pairing.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHubby's%20main%20meal%20was%20the%20Filet%20Mignon%20wrapped%20in%20Bacon;%20purchased%20locally%20the%20meat%20was%20perfectly%20cooked%20(medium-rare),%20so,%20so%20tender%20and%20generously%20large%20for%20the%20cut;%20the%20bacon%20was%20lightly%20crisped,%20and%20had%20melted%20into%20the%20meat%20which%20added%20even%20more%20flavor.%20%20The%20chef,%20Sandy,%20offered%20sauteed%20mushrooms%20which%20were%20a%20nice%20touch,%20but%20the%20meat%20was%20fantastic%20with%20or%20without%20the%20mushrooms.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20had%20the%20Salmon%20in%20an%20Orange-Maple%20Glaze%20with%20Pecans;%20the%20salmon,%20even%20though%20shipped%20into%20Utah,%20was%20perfectly%20cooked%20-%20flaked%20perfectly,%20tender%20and%20moist.%20%20The%20syrup,%20used%20to%20glaze%20the%20salmon,%20was%20in%20a%20small%20bowl%20with%20the%20salmon%20over%20top,%20so%20the%20fish%20was%20not%20saturated%20and%20could%20be%20easily%20dipped%20instead;%20the%20pecans%20gave%20a%20crunchy%20texture%20and%20nutty%20flavor%20to%20the%20syrup.%20%20I%20have%20to%20go%20on%20about%20the%20syrup%20though;%20when%20I%20dipped%20my%20spoon%20in%20to%20get%20a%20taste%20of%20it%20alone,%20my%20reaction%20was,%20%22Oh%20my,%20that%20is%20wicked!%22%20%20This%20item%20would%20be%20perfect%20on%20French%20toast,%20ice%20cream,%20used%20to%20sweeten%20hot%20tea,%20or%20used%20to%20make%20a%20hot%20toddy%20for%20a%20cold%20winter's%20night.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBoth%20meals%20came%20with%20Roughlock%20Potatoes;%20tender,%20red%20skinned%20potatoes%20with%20onions%20and%20bacon%20in%20a%20simple%20sauce...use%20that%20garlic%20toast%20to%20sop%20up%20every%20bit!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOverall%20we%20were%20quite%20happy%20with%20our%20meal%20and%20walked%20out%20with%20smiles%20on%20our%20faces%20and%20full%20bellies.%20%20The%20portions%20you%20receive%20are%20quite%20generous%20and,%20like%20other%20diners,%20we%20walked%20out%20carrying%20a%20small%20carton%20with%20leftovers.%20%20The%20service%20was%20very%20good,%20the%20atmosphere%20is%20welcoming%20and%20comforting,%20the%20food%20is%20very%20good;%20and%20you%20can%20stay%20at%20the%20Inn%20in%20one%20of%20the%20several%20bedrooms%20named%20after%20%22brothel%20ladies%22%20like%20The%20Shady%20Lady,%20Miss%20Kitty%20or%20Miss%20%20Bella.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20Line%20Camp%20Steak%20House%20is%20perfect%20for%20any%20special%20occasion%20dinner,%20like%20our%20anniversary;%20or%20even%20group%20events%20such%20as%20a%20holiday%20party,%20reunions,%20wedding%20receptions%20or%20company%20event.%20%20With%20the%20tourist%20season%20nearly%20at%20an%20end,%20the%20local%20populace%20of%20Monticello%20would%20be%20foolish%20not%20to%20utilize%20this%20%22best%20kept%20secret%22,%20right%20at%20their%20own%20front%20door,%20for%20the%20holiday%20party%20season.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMary%20Cokenour%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
