Ingredients
- 1/4 bacon lard or vegetable oil
- 3 medium sweet onions (sliced)
- 1/4 cup minced garlic
- 3 Tbsp hot sauce
- 5 bottles of Budweiser
- Salt and pepper
- 12 plain brats (Johnsonville is my favorite)

Wisconsin Beer Brats
Servings: 12
Directions
- Heat lard or oil on medium heat for about 1 minute
- Add onions and turn up heat to me-hi, cook until edges start to brown (season with salt and pepper as desired)
- Reduce heat to me-low and cook until onions are soft and mostly brown
- Return to med heat and add garlic and cook for one minute (stir well)
- Add hot sauce and cook for about 30 seconds
- Add Budweiser and bring to a medium boil
- Reduce heat to low and simmer for about 30 minutes
- Add brats and bring liquid back to full boil
- Reduce heat to low, cover and stir brats every 15 minutes
- Brats are finished when they start to "pop" from the casing
- Turn off, you are ready to grill
- Place brats on grill and char ( this won't take too long)
- Strain mixture and reserve onions and garlic for topping and beer for holding
- Place finished brats back in beer and they are ready to serve
