%20read%20and%20pay%20attention%20to.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%E2%80%99ve%20had%20these%20fun%20little%20allergies%20for%20a%20few%20decades%20now,%20but%20for%20the%20most%20part%20rarely%20feel%20deprived,%20as%20there%E2%80%99s%20a%20plethora%20of%20alternative%20ingredients%20to%20cow-dairy%20and%20gluten%20that%20didn%E2%80%99t%20exist%20when%20I%20was%20a%20tween%20battling%20her%20first%20bout%20of%20Lyme%20disease.%20I%20can%20ingest%20a%20small%20amount%20of%20gluten%20without%20killing%20myself,%20and%20a%20few%20times%20a%20year%20indulge%20on%20something%20really%20special:%20a%20local%20beer%20at%20a%20baseball%20game%20with%20friends%20on%20the%20Ohio%20river%20in%20Cincinnati:%20a%20piece%20of%20a%20hot,%20crusty%20Portuguese%20roll%20with%20my%20family.%20I%20admitted%20this%20in%20a%20blog%20post%20for%20Easy%20Eats%20after%20a%20and%20the%20response%20from%20the%20gluten-free%20community%20was%20mixed,%20with%20some%20challenging%20my%20credentials%20in%20working%20for%20a%20gluten-free%20publication%20and%20one%20person%20saying%20flat%20out%20that%20they%20were%20no%20longer%20going%20to%20follow%20the%20magazine.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20there%E2%80%99s%20that.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20piece%20on%20Tacos%20and%20Tequila%20rocking%20the%20hour%20on%20Serious%20Eats%20(and%20SWEET%20is%20up%20there%20too)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOn%20the%20flip%20side,%20I%20interview%20chefs%20and%20cover%20events%20for%20Serious%20Eats%20NY,%20where%20I%20often%20can%E2%80%99t%20eat%20what%20is%20offered%20to%20me.%20I%20either%20pick%20what%20I%20can%20off%20a%20plate,%20rely%20on%20my%20partner%20(Brent%20Herrig,%20who%20thank%20dog%20can%20eat%20everything)%20or%20question%20those%20around%20me%20for%20details%20and%20opinions.%20So%20far%20no%20one%20has%20questioned%20my%20credibility%20to%20write%20in%20this%20world,%20though%20I%20haven%E2%80%99t%20called%20particular%20attention%20to%20the%20fact%20that%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20eat%20a%20single%20bite%20from%20the%20NYC%20Wine%20and%20Food%20Festival%E2%80%99s%20SWEET%20event%20because%20every%20single%20dessert%20offered%20contained%20gluten%20and/or%20dairy,%20most%20often%20both.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESeems%20that%20one%20world%20is%20easier%20to%20get%20by%20in%20and%20the%20other%20more%20serious,%20though%20curiously%20juxtaposed%20in%20their%20titleage.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20never%20quite%20how%20odd%20my%20absence%20of%20eating%20could%20be%20until%20covering%20the%20New%20York%20City%20Wine%20and%20Food%20Festivals%20Chopped,%20SWEET%20and%20Tacos%20and%20Tequila%20events.%20At%20Chopped%20(all%20the%20judges%20from%20the%20TV%20show%20Chopped%20dishing%20out%20at%20Marc%20Murphy%E2%80%99s%20Landmarc)%20I%20could%20literally%20only%20eat%20Murphy%E2%80%99s%20pork%20belly%20%E2%80%93%20if%20I%20just%20ate%20the%20meat%20off%20the%20bun.%20At%20SWEET%20%E2%80%93%20nada.%20I%20went%20home%20both%20nights%20very%20hungry.%20At%20Tacos%20and%20Tequila,%20I%20picked%20my%20way%20through%20(and%20thoroughly%20enjoyed)%20what%20I%20could.%20Luckily%20Brent%20has%20become%20part%20of%20my%20anti-allergy%20team%20and%20questions%20ingredients%20alongside%20me,%20warning%20me%20when%20not%20to%20take%20a%20bite%20(and%20refilling%20my%20tequila%20and%20soda%20as%20needed).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20doesn%E2%80%99t%20mean,%20though,%20that%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20love%20straddling%20both%20of%20these%20worlds.%20In%20fact,%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20see%20them%20as%20two%20different%20worlds.%20They%E2%80%99re%20just%E2%80%A6%20well%E2%80%A6%20my%20world.%20There%20was%20no%20%E2%80%9Cgluten-free%20community%E2%80%9D%20or%20food%20blogs%20when%20I%20started%20on%20my%20personal%20relationship%20with%20watching%20how%20food%20affects%20my%20body.%20There%20was%20just%20me,%20my%20plate,%20and%20how%20my%20body%20accepted%20or%20rejected%20what%20I%20put%20on%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20I%E2%80%99m%20still%20celebrating%20what%20I%20can%20eat%20and%20what%20I%20can%E2%80%99t.%20For%20some%20reason,%20this%20has%20resulted%20in%20my%20profession%20being%20creating%20and%20writing%20about%20food.%20And%20now%20and%20then%20accepting%20that%20maybe%20I%E2%80%99ll%20just%20have%20to%20go%20a%20little%20hungry%E2%80%A6%20and%20drink%20some%20tequila%20and%20shake%20it%20on%20a%20dance%20floor.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECheck%20out%20the%20little%20colored%20words%20in%20the%20post%20for%20my%20pieces%20on%20Easy%20Eats%20and%20Serious%20Eats,%20and%20the%20images%20below%20to%20take%20you%20to%20those%20events.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESlainte,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E-%20Jacqueline%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
