Slow Cooker “Baked” Beans

These beans are sweet, spicy and super easy to make in a slow cooker. Some people put their slow cookers away for the summer but not me, I use mine all year long.  One of my favorite summer slow cooked dishes  is “Baked” Beans.  The beans cook  nice and slow allowing the flavors to do their thing while they cook, and the kitchen stays nice and cool without the oven on. This recipe is made with simple and wholesome ingredients because  why would you want to take something healthy like beans and make them unhealthy?  There is no meat or sugar – just beans, onions and lots of natural flavors. Baked beans are traditionally made with navy beans,  but you can use just about any kind of bean you want.  I like a variety of beans which makes the texture a little more interesting.   This is a perfect dish to serve at your next barbecue with your favorite burger.     You can use dried beans that have been soaked and cooked or organic canned beans.
