.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOut%20of%20the%20many%20prominent%20dishes%20from%20the%20region,%20we%20were%20asked%20to%20pick%201%20of%20the%203%20dishes:%20Tarte%20Flambe/%20Kugelhopf%20&%20Quiche%20Lorraine.%20I%20chose%20to%20make%20Savory%20Kugelhopf.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EKugelhopf%20or%20Gugelhupf%20is%20a%20yeasted%20soft%20--%20a%20hybrid%20between%20cake%20and%20a%20bread.%20Usually%20kugelhopf%20is%20a%20sweet%20bread%20that%20contains%20raisins,%20almonds%20and%20is%20flavored%20with%20citrus.%20Some%20also%20contain%20candied%20fruits%20and%20nuts.%20A%20lesser%20known%20version%20of%20the%20Kugelhopf%20is%20its%20savoury%20Alsatian%20version%20called%20the%20Kugelhopf%20aux%20Lardons.%20%E2%80%9CLardons%E2%80%9D%20is%20the%20French%20word%20for%20bacon,%20and%20this%20version%20is%20typically%20made%20with%20onions,%20ham/%20bacon,%20walnuts%20and%20herbs.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EKugelhopf%20is%20a%20rich%20bread%20almost%20like%20brioche%20and%20has%20eggs%20in%20it.%20I%20used%20'egg%20replacer'%20in%20place%20of%20eggs%20and%20the%20bread%20turned%20out%20great.%20This%20bread%20is%20baked%20in%20a%20Kugelhopf%20pan,%20but%20can%20also%20be%20baked%20in%20a%20bundt%20pan,%20a%20regular%20loaf%20pan%20or%20a%20muffin%20pan.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERecipe%20adapted%20from%20Aparna's%20My%20Diverse%20Kitchen%20&%20Vardhini's%20Cook's%20Joy:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20the%20bread:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMethod:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMake%20the%20Bread%20dough:%20Combine%20flour,%20salt%20and%20yeast%20in%20a%20mixing%20bowl%20or%20the%20bowl%20of%20your%20stand%20mixer.%20Mix%20well%20to%20combine.%20Add%20the%20butter%20and%20mix%20until%20well%20combined.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENext%20add%20the%20warm%20milk%20and%20knwead%20until%20a%20soft%20dough%20forms.%20Cover%20and%20rest%20the%20dough%20rise%20for%201%C2%BD-2%C2%BD%20hours%20or%20until%20doubled%20in%20volume.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPrepare%20the%20Filling:%20Heat%201tsp%20oil%20and%20saute%20onions%20for%203~4%20minutes.%20Remove%20into%20a%20bowl.%20In%20the%20same%20pan,%20heat%201tsp%20oil%20and%20saute%20peppers%20and%20tomatoes%20until%20crisp%20tender,%20about%203~4%20minutes.%20Add%20this%20to%20the%20same%20bowl.%20Season%20with%20salt.%20Mix%20well%20and%20set%20aside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPunch%20the%20dough%20down%20and%20roll%20it%20out%20into%20a%20circular%20disc.%20Sprinkle%20the%20prepared%20onion-pepper%20filling,%20followed%20by%20cubed%20cheese,%20ground%20pepper%20and%20dried%20thyme.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFold%20the%20dough%20over%20the%20filling%20and%20knead%20well%20to%20incorporate%20the%20filling%20evenly%20in%20the%20dough.%20Dough%20is%20very%20sticky%20due%20to%20the%20moisture%20from%20the%20filling,%20so%20work%20with%20it%20gently.%20Form%20the%20dough%20into%20a%20log%20and%20place%20it%20in%20a%20greased%20bundt%20pan.%20Pinch%20the%20ends%20close.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECover%20the%20pan%20and%20let%20rise%20for%201hour.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20the%20oven%20to%20400%C2%B0F.%20Bake%20the%20Kugelhopf%20for%2035-40%20minutes%20or%20until%20bread%20is%20baked%20and%20sounds%20hollow%20when%20knocked%20on.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20bread%20stuck%20to%20the%20pan%20a%20little%20bit,%20so%20make%20sure%20to%20grease%20the%20pan%20very%20well.%20Let%20the%20bread%20cool%20in%20the%20pan%20for%2010~15minutes%20before%20removing%20it%20from%20the%20bundt%20pan.%20Enjoy%20as%20is%20with%20some%20butter%20or%20with%20a%20warm%20bowl%20of%20soup.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
