Sautéed Asparagus with Green Garlic and Olives; working dogs Recipe
by Katie Zeller

As the season comes to a close I am ‘allowed’ (ha) to get more creative with our asparagus.

Actually, it means that mon mari will join me in whatever I’m eating rather than sticking to his favorite finish of butter, salt and pepper. I’m perfectly happy to divide the asparagus, toss his in a skillet with a bit off water, then have some fun with mine.

We were both happy with this.

Sautéed Asparagus with Green Garlic and Olives

Total time: 20 minutes

Ingredients:

Instructions:

Heat oil in a medium skillet.

Add asparagus, green garlic and sauté over medium heat until the green garlic is tender and the asparagus just starts to brown and blister, 8 – 10 minutes.

Add olives, vinegar and heat through.

Remove from heat, add basil and serve.

First… the ads.

I don’t think they were working earlier; I think they’re working now.

Let me know if they annoy….

Second…. the girls.

You know they’re sisters. They’re very close and rarely far apart.

When they’re outside they do what we call ‘the 360’. They’re either back to back or butt to butt.

They can watch in all directions, being ever vigilant against the possibility of bunny incursions.

Brave dogs.

Below is a picture of their favorite food tree.

It’s a plum tree. In another two months it will be full of tiny, cherry-size purple plums.

Guapa loves them. She races to the tree, picks them and eats them. If she can’t find any within reach she sits and looks at me, willing me to pick them for her. There are other plum trees, but this is her favorite.

I try to limit her consumption of plums but when it’s peak season it can be challenging.

She’s very fast when it comes to food.

The strange thing is she’s been looking for plums since the tree flowered in February. Every morning she goes to the tree, sniffs all the branches, then sits and looks at me, asking for a plum. She hasn’t eaten one since last July.

I’m amazed she still remembers.
