%20had%20been%20given%20special%20dispensation%20to%20stay%20up%20late%20and%20watch%20the%20live%20broadcast%20on%20the%20TV,%20in%20the%20sixth%20form%20common%20room.%20Powered%20only%20by%20a%20variety%20of%20hot%20drinks,%20plenty%20of%20toast,%20and%20an%20army%20of%20assorted%20spreads,%20we%20made%20it%20through%20right%20to%20the%20end%20of%20transmission.%20I%20can't%20for%20the%20life%20of%20me%20remember%20much%20about%20the%20broadcast,%20except%20for%20the%20strong%20sense%20that%20things%20were%20amiss%20in%20large%20chunks%20of%20Africa,%20and%20that%20Lenny%20Henry%20wasn't%20entirely%20sure%20what%20was%20going%20on%20for%20most%20of%20the%20programme,%20but%20at%20least%20I%20can%20say%20I%20was%20there.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFast%20forward%20to%202011%20and%20Comic%20Relief%20it%20still%20with%20us,%20and%20as%20fab%20as%20ever.%20Tomorrow%20is%20comic%20relief%20day,%20and%20for%20once%20I%20decided%20to%20cook%20in%20honour%20of%20it,%20and%20something%20a%20bit%20unusual%20to%20boot.%20A%20spicy%20-%20and%20very%20red%20-%20variation%20on%20my%20Mum's%20cheese%20scones.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERed%20Devil%20Cheese%20Scone%20NosesNow%20my%20Mum's%20cheese%20scones%20are%20-%20of%20course%20-%20the%20best%20cheese%20scones%20on%20the%20planet.%20Aren't%20all%20Mum's%20cheese%20scones?%20I%20make%20them%20myself%20quite%20often,%20they're%20a%20particularly%20brilliant%20way%20of%20using%20up%20milk%20and%20cheese%20which%20has%20started%20to%20lose%20its%20lustre,%20shall%20we%20say.%20I've%20even%20done%20variations,%20my%20Brie%20&%20Lemon%20Balm%20Scones%20the%20most%20successful%20so%20far.%20But%20tonight%20I%20thought%20I'd%20push%20the%20boat%20out,%20and%20try%20something%20a%20bit%20...%20well%20...%20odd.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20most%20long%20running%20theme%20of%20Comic%20Relief%20has%20to%20be%20the%20red%20nose,%20and%20in%20fact%20the%20whole%20enterprise%20is%20often%20referred%20to%20as%20Red%20Nose%20Day%20-%20or%20RND%20as%20it's%20now%20cropping%20up%20on%20Twitter.%20So%20what,%20I%20figured%20about%20Red%20Nose%20Scones?%20But%20not%20just%20plain%20old%20red%20noses,%20but%20spicy,%20hot,%20cheesy%20red%20noses.%20To%20the%20kitchen!%20Actually,%20I%20had%20no%20way%20of%20making%20any%20any%20red%20food%20at%20all%20at%20this%20point,%20bar%20adding%20vast%20quantities%20of%20tomato%20puree,%20but%20luckily%20my%20neighbour%20Angela%20was%20happy%20to%20share%20some%20food%20colouring%20that%20she%20had%20spare,%20so%20I%20was%20in%20business.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20back%20to%20the%20recipe.%20Really%20simple,%20First%20here's%20the%20cheese%20scone%20recipe,%20sans%20Comic%20Reliefness%20...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%22Red%20Devil%22%20Cheese%20Scone%20Nosesby%20Rich%20Osborne,%20March%2017th,%202011%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EA%20spicey%20twist%20on%20a%20classic%20cheese%20scone%20recipe,%20perfect%20for%20comedy%20events.%20Should%20take%20about%2020%20minutes%20or%20so%20to%20prepare,%2015%20minutes%20to%20cook,%20so%2035%20minutes%20in%20total.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMethod%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMix%20all%20the%20dry%20ingredients%20in%20a%20food%20processor,%20then%20add%20the%20butter%20and%20process%20briefly.%20Add%20the%20cheese,%20process%20briefly%20again%20and%20then%20add%20the%20food%20coluring,%20the%20hot%20sauce%20and%20the%20tomato%20puree.%20Then%20start%20to%20add%20the%20milk%20with%20the%20machine%20running%20until%20the%20mixture%20forms%20a%20firm%20ball%20inside%20the%20machine.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EShape%20into%20walnut%20shaped%20balls%20and%20bake%20in%20a%20fan%20oven%20at%20180%C2%B0%20for%2015%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECool%20on%20a%20wire%20rack.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFront%20lot%20ready%20for%20the%20oven,%20back%20lot%20are%20baked%20already%20and%20now%20coolingWith%20the%20quantities%20from%20the%20recipe%20above%20you%20should%20end%20up%20with%20at%20least%2030%20red%20devil%20noses,%20hopefully%20more.%20Personally%20I%20got%2035%20out%20of%20it%20(it%20may%20have%20been%2036%20actually%20-%20I've%20lost%20track%20of%20how%20many%20I've%20eaten%20already).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20think%20they%20would%20be%20fab%20split%20in%20half%20whilst%20still%20warm,%20and%20served%20with%20cold%20butter,%20especially%20a%20chive%20or%20garlic%20butter,%20but%20they%20need%20to%20go%20to%20work%20tomorrow%20to%20join%20the%20other%20baked%20goods%20being%20sold%20to%20raise%20money%20for%20charity.%20Of%20course%20everyone%20else%20will%20be%20producing%20sweet%20cakes%20and%20the%20like,%20so%20chances%20are%20my%20little%20red%20devils%20might%20be%20coming%20home%20again%20with%20me%20-%20but%20then%20again%20you%20never%20know.%20They%20are%20damn%20tasty,%20and%20on%20comic%20relief%20day%20anything%20might%20happen%20....%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
