This is a deep fried item made with Pink Cabbage, and is kids friendly item. I tried this for the first time and my 7 and half year old (and should say is a picky eater!!) requested the same dish and made me prepare this the following weekend!! This can also be tried with the white Cabbage, I just was wanting to experiment this with pink cabbage then!!

  • Pink Cabbage - washed/grated (about two cups)
  • Besan/Chickpeas flour - about 5-6 table spoons
  • Rice flour - about 1 or 2 table spoons
  • Red chilli powder - half tea spoon (varies depending upon how much spice level can be tolerated, half tea spoon would be about medium-hot)
  • Coriander powder - quater teaspoon (I make this at home, by grinding to powder just the raw coriander seeds)
  • Garam masala powder - quater teaspoon ( I make this as home, by grinding to powder the following items by dry roasting almost equivalent portions of these - cloves, cinnamon stick, coriander seeds very little cardamom) - if you have store bought masala, which contains additional spices, you can still use it.
  • Salt as needed
  • Cooking oil - for deep frying

Directions

  1. In a mixing bowl, spread pink grated cabbage and add besan/chickpeas flour - mix it evenly
  2. Add rice flour and mix the contents
  3. Add chilli powder, garam masala powder along with salt and mix them all until the spices spread evenly.
  4. Add about two table spoons of oil to the mixture for the oil to spread into the mixture.
  5. Next add little water and stir well until the everything gets mixed well. (water should be added little by little to make sure the mixture does not turn out to be too watery, but just enough to make sure all the ingredients get mixed up well.
  6. Optional - coriander leaves can be added to the above mixture for additional flavor.
  7. Frying - Heat oil in a shallow pan and when the oil heats up, put small quantities of the mixture spreading the mixture with fingers as you put into the hot oil (these will come out to be shapeless, need not be round enough, as this way, the mixture gets fried well and turns out to cook/taste better). This can also be put with spoon making sure the balls are really small.
