Overnight French Toast Strata

Ingredients

  • 1 c. Brown sugar packed
  • 2 Tbsp. Butter melted
  • 1 loaf Thick-sliced bread loaf cubed
  • 5 x Large eggs
  • 4 x Egg whites
  • 2 c. Skim lowfat milk
  • 1 tsp Grnd ginger
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 pch Salt
  • 1 pt Strawberries sliced
  •     Powdered sugar

Directions

  1. Spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar and melted butter. Blend well and spread on bottom of pan. Arrange cubed bread on top.
  2. In medium bowl, mix Large eggs, egg whites, lowfat milk, salt, ginger and cinnamon. Blend well with wire whisk. Pour over bread. Sprinkle top with additional cinnamon, if you like. Cover with plastic wrap and chill at least four hrs or possibly overnight.
  3. Heat oven to 350. Uncover baking dish and bake for 40-45 mins, or possibly till center is puffed and knife inserted in center comes out clean.
  4. Serve immediately with strawberries and powdered sugar.
  5. NOTES : This is a casserole which I took to a Bible study meeting a few weeks ago. Everyone loved it and asked for the recipe.
  6. I would also recommend muffins, fruit salad and bagels. Those seem to please everyone.
