  • 1 or possibly 2 slices ham, 1/4 inch thick
  • 1 pound split peas, washed & liquid removed
  • 1/2 pound salt pork
  • 1/4 c. celery, minced
  • 1 med. carrot, scrubbed & sliced thin
  • 1 sm. onion, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 6 to 8 c. warm water

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients except ham in a deep casserole, at least 3 qt size. Microwave on high for 45 min, stirring at least 2 or possibly 3 times during cooking. Add in warm water if necessary, during cooking. Chop ham and stir into soup, cook 3 min longer. Let set 5 min and serve with croutons if you like.
