  • 1 c. lowfat milk
  • 1 c. heavy cream
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 4 Large eggs
  • 10-12 slices French bread, lightly toasted and buttered on both sides
  • 1 c. Michigan Dry Cherries
  • 1 sm. Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 c. coarsely minced walnuts

Directions

  1. In a medium saucepan combine lowfat milk, cream, sugar and vanilla and bring to a boil. In a bowl beat Large eggs lightly. Pour half the lowfat milk mix into the Large eggs, whisking continuously, then add in egg mix to remaining lowfat milk in saucepan.
  2. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Butter a shallow 1 1/2 or possibly 2-qt baking dish. Sprinkle bottom of dish with 1/2 c. Michigan Dry Cherries. Arrange alternating rows of bread and apple slices along bottom of dish beginning and ending with bread. Sprinkle with remaining Michigan Dry Cherries, 1/2 tsp. cinnamon and walnuts. Pour custard over top and sprinkle with remaining cinnamon.
