Memories with a Honolulu Cocktail Recipe
by Pam's Midwest Kitchen Korner

The best vacation ever, for me,  was when Bill and I went to  Hawaii! I love Hawaii, I love everything about it!   It was love at first sight, from my view of the sands of Waikiki Beach, the turquoise water, the gentle lapping of the oceans' waves, to the lush tropical setting over all of Oahu.  It was heavenly, for sure! Then there was the food:  kalua pork, shave ice, anything with coconut and/or pineapple, and the huge variety of seafood.  All the delicious drinks like the Man Tai that usually comes to mind, the Blue Hawaii, the Lava Flow and on to this tropical classic that surprisingly did not originate in Hawaii... The Honolulu Cocktail was an old 1930’s signature cocktail, from the famous Brown Derby in Hollywood.  It taste pretty much like gin with a bunch of juices.  I love the taste of dry gin, but this was a first for me, combining it with the juices - that’s more or less the recipe.  The juniper is distinct but cut down by the sweet juices.  The gin has a totally different taste with the pineapple, orange and lemon, not unpleasant at all:  just not like the usual gin drink.   The fruit juices in the drink evidently led to the name and create a touch of the tropical islands’ flavors.  If you like the taste of fruitier cocktails, this is for you! Author: PamPrint Recipe Honolulu Cocktail A little sip of this fruity cocktail conjures up tropical breezes and sandy beaches! ingredients: 1 dash of Angostura bitters ¼ teaspoon pineapple juice ¼ teaspoon orange juice ¼ teaspoon lemon juice  ½ teaspoon powdered sugar 1½ ounces gin instructions: Shake with ice and strain into cocktail glass.  Garnish with a pineapple chunk or lemon twist. Cheers!
