Ah, those New Year’s and resolutions to eat healthier! After one week, did you know that 75% of people have broken their resolutions? It’s no wonder when January’s the time we’re getting together with friends to watch pro football playoff and college bowl games, which of course means eating and drinking to excess!

Besides serving healthy party food, one way you can cut back on the calories long after New Year’s resolutions are past is by serving your guests lighter drinks like a fruity Pinot Grigio Sangria made with Brancott Estate Flight Song wines.

The benefits of serving Brancott Estate Flight Song wines

Brancott Estate Flight Song Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio wines are 20% lower in calories – and slightly lower in alcohol content – than regular wine. Even so, Brancott Estate Flight Song wines have all the quality and taste you’re used to in regular wine. In fact, Brancott Estate was the first to plant and create the world’s first Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc wine.

I recently tried their Pinot Grigio wine and was impressed with its taste and slight fruitiness. It’s no surprise they described it this way: Floral notes with apple and Nashi pear, complimented by white peach and guava flavors that combine on the palate. It was the perfect accompaniment to my olive and onion pizza, which was very cheesy and salty like many party snacks. Just the perfect wine to serve at your next get together!

Since Brancott Estate’s chief winemaker describes their Pinot Grigio as having “tropical fruit flavor,” I thought it would be a terrific wine to use in a sangria, so I developed a special recipe.

Ingredients

Enough fruit to fill one large sangria or lemonade pitcher – strawberries, oranges, pineapple, grapefruit, apples, etc. Feel free to improvise!

1 to 2 bottles Brancott Estate Flight Song Pinot Grigio (depending on size of your pitcher)

Directions

Cut fruit into small bite sized pieces. Fill pitcher completely to top.

Fill pitcher with Pinot Grigio and completely cover fruit with wine.

Cover top of pitcher with plastic wrap and place in refrigerator overnight so fruit can be infused with Pinot Grigio. Do this the evening before your party.

The day of your party, just before guests arrive, remove pitcher from refrigerator. Stir fruit with a long spoon.

Fill glasses with fruit until half of the fruit is removed from the pitcher.

Slowly fill the pitcher to the top with more Pinot Grigio. Stir wine and fruit.

Serve sangria in the fruit filled glasses.

To replenish the sangria pitcher, refill the pitcher with more Pinot Grigio. Stir to combine.

To serve, again remove fruit from pitcher and place in glasses. Pour sangria over fruit. Enjoy!

Prep Time: 30 Hours

Total Time: 30 Hours

Servings: Serves two full pitchers of sangrias. The number of glasses depends on size of your pitcher and glasses!
