Keftethes~ Greek meatballs

This savory item can be used as an appetizer or part of a main dish with tomato sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 Lb ground beef
  • 1 Large red onion chopped finely
  • 1 Clove garlic finely chopped
  • 1 Cup bread crumbs~ plain
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/4 Cup parsley chopped
  • 1/4 Cup mint chopped
  • 1 Tsp dried oregano
  • Pinch of salt
  • Flour for dredging
  • Olive Oil for frying

Directions

  1. Mix meat, onion, garlic, bread crumbs, eggs, mint, oregano and dash salt into large bowl ~ with your hands blend gently. Cover with plastic wrap and place into refrigerator for 1 hour
  2. Get a heavy cast iron skilled and place 1/4 inch of olive oil into it, place over medium heat
  3. Roll meatballs into small tablespoon sized balls and dredge into flour, set this aside while oil heats
  4. Then gently place meatballs into hot olive oil and fry, do not crowd the pan, place on paper towels on a cookie sheet to drain excessive oil.
  5. When serving add a squeeze of lemon juice or serve with your favorite sauce and spaghetti
