Make a jar of this and keep it on hand to add to chili, ground beef for tacos or enchiladas, etc. Give it as a gift, too.

Goes Well With: chili, tex-mex

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup good chili powder (Gephardt's or Mexene)
  • (I mix together ancho, guajillo, and chipotle powders.)
  • 2 tbs. ground cumin
  • 2 tbs. dry oregano
  • 2 tbs. onion powder
  • 1 tbs. garlic powder
  • 2 tbs. seasoned salt
  • 1 tbs. pepper
  • pinch of cayenne pepper

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients, except the garlic powder, in a skillet, turn heat on high and cook until the mixture becomes fragrant and starts to smoke, 20-30 seconds.
  2. Let cool, add garlic, mix well.
  3. Store in an airtight container.
  4. Make about 1 1/3 cups.
  5. I use 1 1/2 - 2 tbs. per 1 lb. of ground beef.
