.%20%22We're%20going%20to%20that%20party,%20if%20I%20have%20to%20crawl%20there.%20Rose%20can%20sit%20with%20her%20fancy%20friends...%20I%20don't%20give%20a%20shit.%20I'll%20show%20her%22%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOkay.%20If%20that's%20what%20it%20takes%20to%20get%20her%20through%20this,%20you%20go%20girl!%20I%20always%20thought%20laughter%20was%20the%20best%20medicine%20but%20evidently%20revenge%20really%20kicks%20ass.%20My%20mother%20is%20Italian%20after%20all,%20and%20if%20she%20wants%20to%20go%20swanning%20into%20some%20church%20benefit%20party%20two%20weeks%20after%20surgery%20like%20Michael%20Corleone,%20who%20am%20I%20to%20stop%20her?%20After%20all%20what%20can%20you%20say%20about%20somebody%20who%20thinks%20Mae%20Rose%20Prizzi%20is%20a%20role%20model?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20got%20a%20voice%20mail%20this%20morning.%20I%20picked%20it%20up%20and%20it%20was%20my%20mom%20reading%20me%20the%20Webster's%20definition%20of%20feisty,%20(her%20doctor%20called%20her%20feisty)%20and%20she%20wanted%20to%20know%20if%20I%20thought%20being%20called%20feisty%20was%20an%20insult.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%22No%22,%20I%20explained.%20%22Feisty%20is%20Shirley%20Mc%20Laine.%20Feisty%20is%20Betty%20White.%22%20She%20seemed%20happy%20with%20that%20definition.%20Plotting%20revenge,%20parsing%20the%20definition%20of%20feisty,%20wondering%20if%20her%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Edoctor%20is%20dating%20anyone.%20It's%20going%20to%20be%20a%20busy%20next%20two%20weeks.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20far%20during%20the%20last%20week,%20there%20have%20been%20moments%20when%20I%20have%20just%20wanted%20to%20check%20out%20mentally%20and%20go%20for%20the%20buzz.%20That%20however,%20is%20not%20an%20option.%20When%20dealing%20with%20Fran,%20one%20must%20have%20one's%20wits%20about%20one,%20and%20it's%20important%20to%20live%20in%20the%20reality-based%20community%2024/7.%20So%20when%20the%20real%20thing%20won't%20or%20can't%20do,%20I%20always%20say%20go%20for%20the%20illusion.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhich%20brings%20me%20to%20my%20quest%20for%20a%20tall,%20cool%20Summer%20cocktail%20that%20refreshes%20without%20altering%20any%20reality.%20A%20drink%20that%20allows%20you%20to%20put%20your%20feet%20up%20while%20still%20keeping%20a%20head%20on%20your%20shoulders%20for%20emergency%20revenge%20parties.%20I%20decided%20to%20experiment%20with%20some%20of%20the%20simple%20syrups%20I've%20been%20brewing%20and%20see%20if%20I%20could%20cook%20up%20a%20pleasing%20alternative%20to%20one%20of%20Alan's%20favorite%20Summer%20cocktails.%20I%20figured%20Alan%20would%20be%20the%20perfect%20subject%20to%20test%20my%20skills%20on%20(after%20all%20he%20grew%20up%20in%20Westport%20Connecticut,%20total%20Madmen%20G&T%20territory%20where%20they're%20born%20with%20swizzle%20sticks%20in%20hand).%20I%20wanted%20to%20see%20if%20I%20could%20make%20a%20fake%20cocktail%20just%20as%20tasty%20as%20a%20real%20one.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThat%20brings%20me%20to%20my%20virgin%20G%20&%20T.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EVirgin%20Gin%20and%20Tonic%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhat%20you%20need:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHere's%20What%20to%20Do:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMix%20together%202%20cups%20of%20water%20and%201%20cup%20of%20sugar.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBring%20the%20mix%20to%20a%20boil%20and%20take%20it%20off%20the%20fire.%20Add%20in%20the%20juniper%20berries%20and%20peppercorns.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPut%20a%20lid%20on%20the%20sugar%20water%20mixture%20and%20let%20everything%20steep%20for%20about%201%20hour.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPour%20the%20mixture%20through%20a%20strainer,%20leave%20out%20the%20juniper%20berries%20and%20peppercorns%20and%20pour%20the%20flavored%20simple%20syrup%20into%20a%20clean%20bottle%20and%20refrigerate%20until%20you're%20ready%20to%20use%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETear%20a%20few%20mint%20leaves%20up,%20and%20muddle%20them%20in%20the%20bottom%20of%20a%20tall%20slender%20glass.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20in%203%20Tbs%20of%20the%20juniper%20simple%20syrup.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%201%20Tbs%20of%20fresh%20lime%20juice%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESwizzle%20everything%20together.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20ice.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFill%20the%20rest%20of%20the%20glass%20with%20a%20mix%20of%201/2%20tonic%20water,%20and%201/2%20mineral%20water.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMix%20well%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESqueeze%20a%20wedge%20of%20fresh%20lime%20into%20the%20mix%20and%20pop%20the%20wedge%20on%20the%20edge%20of%20%20the%20glass.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20how%20did%20it%20work?%20Pretty%20damn%20good.%20We%20had%20a%20three%20day%20heatwave%20in%20Sonoma%20this%20weekend%20and%20we%20were%20in%20the%20middle%20of%20writing%20this%20pilot%20we're%20working%20on.%20He%20wanted%20something%20tall%20and%20cool%20and%20refreshing.%20If%20it%20wasn't%20a%20work%20day%20a%20G&T%20would%20have%20been%20perfect.%20So,%20I%20made%20him%20one%20of%20these.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%22Whaddya%20think?%22I%20asked%20him.%20%22Is%20it%20okay?%22%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%22Tastes%20great%22%20he%20said.%20There%20was%20a%20pause.%20%22I%20keep%20expecting%20the%20buzz%22%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBingo!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20if%20you're%20looking%20for%20a%20non-alcoholic%20drink%20this%20Fourth%20of%20July%20weekend%20for%20wha
