%20and%20I%20was%20beyond%20happy%20I%E2%80%99m%20still%20learning%20the%20ropes%20for%20photography%20but%20I%20have%20some%20quick%20ten%20tips%20on%20food%20photography%20for%20anyone%20willing%20to%20learn:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1.%20Get%20some%20great%20props-%20Food%20alone%20is%20great%20but%20the%20photo%20really%20shines%20when%20a%20carefully%20placed%20fork%20or%20colorful%20napkin%20is%20placed%20in%20the%20photo.%20I%20know%20this%20really%20works.%20When%20shooting%20one%20of%20my%20recipes,%20I%20was%20at%20a%20loss.%20A%20white%20background%20and%20the%20food.%20Then%20I%20replaced%20the%20background%20with%20some%20textured%20red%20and%20added%20a%20fork%20in%20there%20and%20poof!%20Magic%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2.%20Composition,%20composition,%20composition-%20In%20truth,%20this%20is%20the%20part%20where%20I%20struggle%20the%20most%20(this%20and%20lighting).%20When%20running%20into%20problems,%20don%E2%80%99t%20be%20afraid%20to%20play%20around%20a%20bit.%20Move%20this%20left,%20take%20the%20green%20away,%20move%20this%20forward%E2%80%A6whatever%20works.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3.%20Lighting-%20Oooo.%20Don%E2%80%99t%20even%20get%20me%20started%20on%20this%20one.%20Lighting%20is%20one%20of%20my%20biggest%20issues,%20especially%20when%20shooting%20at%20night.%20Shadows%20are%20terrible%20for%20food,%20I%20tell%20ya.%20Make%20sure%20to%20shoot%20when%20it%E2%80%99d%20daylight.%20If%20not,%20try%20moving%20the%20camera%20around%20until%20you%20find%20an%20angle%20that%20hides%20the%20shadows%20the%20best.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E4.%20Messy%20can%20be%20good-%20Sometimes%20food%20can%20look%20too%20perfect.%20You%20know%20what%20I%E2%80%99m%20talking%20about%E2%80%A6the%20almost%20fake%20pie%20that%20you%E2%80%99re%20afraid%20to%20cut%E2%80%A6or%20the%20perfect%20iced%20cake%20that%20has%20absolutely%20no%20marks?%20Well%20I%E2%80%99m%20telling%20you,%20it%E2%80%99s%20okay%20to%20mess%20it%20up%20a%20bit.%20Slice%20the%20cake%20and%20take%20a%20bite%20out%20of%20it.%20Place%20a%20fork%20next%20to%20it%20and%20the%20photo%20looks%20more%20%E2%80%9Cfriendly.%E2%80%9D%20Almost%20if%20you%20can%20picture%20eating%20it%20yourself!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E5.%20Add%20some%20color-%20Photographing%20savory%20foods%20can%20be%20a%20pain.%20Rice%20and%20curry%20look%20plain%20but%20you%20can%20always%20spice%20it%20up.%20Add%20a%20dusting%20of%20herbs%20or%20even%20throw%20some%20fresh%20garnishes%20in.%20Put%20a%20colored%20napkin%20on%20the%20bottom%20or%20utensils.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E6.%20Try%20different%20angles-%20Have%20you%20ever%20tried%20a%20top%20down%20shot?%20I%20will%20tell%20you%20it%20is%20hard%20to%20get%20right.%20If%20one%20angle%20doesn%E2%80%99t%20please%20you,%20move%20around.%20Stand%20on%20a%20chair%20is%20you%20have%20to!%20It%E2%80%99s%20fun%20to%20experiment%20with%20different%20angles.%20One%20time%20I%20hung%20the%20camera%20around%20my%20neck%20and%20set%20the%20self%20timer%20and%20started%20adding%20ingredients.%20Cool%20effect!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E7.%20Get%20inspiration-%20Where%20did%20you%20come%20up%20with%20the%20recipe?%20What%20are%20the%20recipe%E2%80%99s%20origins?%20Use%20the%20answers%20to%20these%20questions%20to%20add%20some%20life%20into%20the%20photo.%20For%20example,%20my%20Asian-Style%20Tomato%20Soup%20photo%20has%20some%20chopsticks%20to%20reflect%20on%20the%20origin%20of%20the%20recipe.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E8.%20Shoot%20clear%20images-%20Make%20sure%20your%20camera%20is%20focused.%20No%20one%20like%20blurry%20photos,%20not%20even%20blurry%20photos%20of%20good%20food.%20Try%20out%20the%20differences%20between%20manual%20focus%20and%20automatic.%20Play%20around%20and%20get%20to%20know%20your%20camera!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E9.%20It%E2%80%99s%20the%20person%20not%20the%20camera-%20Don%E2%80%99t%20worry%20if%20you%E2%80%99re%20not%20a%20professional%20photographer.%20I%E2%80%99m%20not%20one%20either.%20Put%20your%20personality%20into%20it%20and%20it%20will%20come%20out%20looking%20like%20your%20did.%20You%20don%E2%80%99t%20need%20some%20fancy%20camera%20(although%20it%20helps).%20Use%20your%20imagination.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E10.%20Have%20fun-%20I%20know%20this%20sounds%20very%20cliche,%20but%20have%20fun%20with%20it!%20There%20are%20so%20many%20ways%20to%20capture%20your%20beautiful%20work%20of%20art/food.%20I%20know%20I%20had%20fun%20jumping%20on%20and%20off%20chairs%20to%20get%20a%20better%20look%20at%20the%20food.%20Trying%20out%20different%20fabrics%20and%20even%20using%20a%20calendar%20as%20the%20background%20for%20one.%20It%20was%20definitely%20fun%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWell%20I%20put%20my%20two/ten%20cents%20in.%20I%E2%80%99m%20not%20a%20professional%20but%20I%E2%80%99m%20working%20at%20it%20I%20love%20taking%20pictures%20of%20the%20food%20that%20I%20made!%20I%20hope%20this%20helps%20and%20good%20luck!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%20Loading...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERelated%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETags:%20blogging,%20camera,%20color,%20composition,%20Food,%20novice,%20photography,%20tips%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
