Easy Hamburger Steaks with Brown Onion Gravy

Comfort food classic made easy with store-bought brown gravy. If you want to make your own, a recipe is included.

Ingredients

  • Steaks:
  • 1 1/2 lbs. ground chuck
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 slices white bread
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire
  • 1 tsp. minced dry onion
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • Sauce 1:
  • 1 bottle brown gravy
  • 1/2 medium onion, chopped and sauteed in olive oil and butter
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • Sauce 2:
  • 2 1/2 tbs. butter and olive oil
  • 2 tbs. flour
  • 1 can beef broth (or 2 cups water with 2 tsp. dry bullion or Better Than Bullion)
  • 1/2 onion, chopped

Directions

  1. Por the milk into a bowl, ad torn pieces of the bread, let soak 5 minutes.
  2. Add the beef and the other ingredients, mix well, and four into 4 oval or round patties.
  3. Bake covered at 375 for 30-40 minutes.
  4. Drain juices and fat. Let rest on the counter, covered.
  5. Sauce 1: Saute the onions in the oil and butter until lightly browned. Combine with the gravy and pour over the hamburger steaks.
  6. Sauce 2: saute the onions in the butter until golden brown, add the flour.
  7. Slowly add the broth or water, stirring constantly.
  8. If using water, stir in the buillon.
  9. Season to taste, and por over the steaks.
