Easy Banana Cake Recipe You Can Make in a Dutch Oven Recipe

%20that%20can%20turn%20a%20campfire%20into%20the%20French%20Laundry%E2%80%A6%20well,%20maybe%20not.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo,%20how%20do%20you%20like%20my%20%20new%20toy?%20%20Isn%E2%80%99t%20she%20beautiful?%20%20Can%20you%20believe%20I%20cooked%20this%20Bananas%20Foster%20Cake%20in%20my%20Dutch%20oven?%20%20Well,%20I%20did!%20%20Notice%20how%20beautifully%20it%20turned%20out%20of%20the%20oven%E2%80%A6%20how%20%E2%80%9Ccaramelie%E2%80%9D%20the%20brown%20sugar%20and%20bananas%20got.%20%20It%20was%20a%20hit%20with%20my%20family%20even%20if%20I%20do%20say%20so%20myself%20.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20do%20have%20to%20come%20clean,%20tho%E2%80%99.%20%20The%20recipe%20is%20not%20mine.%20%20It%20came%20from%20Gary%20Wilkens,%20three%20time%20Arizona%20Dutch%20Oven%20Cooking%20Champion%20and%20Co%20founder%20of%20the%20Arizona%20Chapter%20of%20International%20Dutch%20Oven%20Society,%20in%20other%20words,%20Dutch%20oven%20chef%20extraordinaire.%20%20I%20was%20lucky%20enough%20to%20spend%20time%20with%20him%20while%20he%20was%20cooking%20for%20a%20group%20of%20about%20thirty%20Boy%20Scout%20leaders%20at%20a%20Camporee%20just%20outside%20Phoenix.%20%20Yes,%20in%20the%20desert%20outside%20Phoenix,%20in%20the%20heat,%20%20with%20the%20snakes%E2%80%A6%20real%20snakes%E2%80%A6%20rattle%20snakes.%20%20What%20I%20do%20for%20the%20sake%20of%20this%20blog!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGary%20knew%20I%20needed%20an%20easy%20recipe%20to%20brush%20up%20on%20my%20Dutch%20oven%20skillz%20(yes,%20I%20have%20skillz,%20what%20kind%20of%20Southwestgirl%20would%20I%20be%20if%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20have%20Dutch%20oven%20skillz?)%20so,%20he%20gave%20me%20this%20Bananas%20Foster%20Cake%20recipe%20to%20try%20out%20on%20my%20unsuspecting%20family.%20%20He%20also%20gave%20me%20all%20kinds%20of%20tips%20on%20how%20to%20get%20champion%20results%20with%20your%20outdoor%20Dutch%20oven.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDirections%20for%20Easy%20Banana%20Cake%20Baked%20in%20a%20Dutch%20Oven%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBananas%20turn%20brown%20quickly%20so%20the%20first%20thing%20I%20did%20was%20mix%20up%20the%20cake%20mix.%20%20I%20added%20the%20eggs%20called%20for%20in%20the%20recipe,%20but%20if%20you%20are%20entering%20a%20Chuck%20Wagon%20competition,%20you%20must%20leave%20them%20out.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENext,%20I%20melted%20the%20butter%20and%20the%20brown%20sugar%20together%20in%20the%20bottom%20of%20the%20Dutch%20oven%20and%20sprinkled%20in%20the%20cinnamon.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20sliced%20the%20bananas%20on%20a%20bias%E2%80%A6%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eand%20tossed%20them%20into%20the%20yummy%20butter%20and%20sugar.%20%20I%20stirred%20mine%20around%20until%20coated%20with%20the%20butter%20%20mixture%E2%80%A6%20not%20too%20long%20tho%E2%80%99,%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20want%20the%20bananas%20to%20be%20too%20soft%20after%20the%20cake%20was%20baked.%20%20About%20two%20to%20three%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENext,%20I%20poured%20the%20cake%20batter%20over%20the%20bananas%20and%E2%80%A6%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Efolded%20the%20carmel%20and%20bananas%20into%20the%20cake.%20%20Don%E2%80%99t%20worry,%20the%20bananas%20settle%20back%20to%20the%20bottom%20and%20leave%20a%20little%20of%20the%20brown%20sugar%20flavor%20in%20the%20caked%20mix.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20put%20the%20lid%20on%20the%20Dutch%20oven%20and%20place%20over%20the%20coals,%20arranged%20the%20coals%20on%20top%20and%20let%20%E2%80%98er%20bake.%20%20About%2035%20to%2040%20minutes.%20%20When%20it%20was%20finished,%20I%20ifted%20the%20Dutch%20oven%20off%20the%20coals%20and%20carefully%20removed%20the%20lid%20with%20out%20getting%20the%20ashes%20in%20the%20banana%20cake.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHeat%20a%2012-inch%20Dutch%20oven%20and%20cover%20with%20coals%20for%2015%20minutes.%20Slicc%20bananas%20lengthwise%20and%20set%20aside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPrepare%20cake%20mix,%20with%20or%20without%20eggs,%20and%20set%20aside.%20Remove%20preheated%20oven%20from%20coals%20and%20melt%20margarine%20in%20bottom.%20Add%20brown%20sugar%20and%20mix%20well.%20Add%20bananas%20and%20saut%C3%A9%20for%20three%20minutes%20over%20fire.%20add%20rum%20if%20desired.%20Stir%20until%20the%20rum%20is%20heated%20and%20flambe.%20Pour%20cake%20mix%20over%20bananas.%20Fold%20banana/sugar%20mixture%20up%20over%20cake%20mix%20a%20few%20times.%20Sprinkle%20with%20cinnamon%20and%20sugar.%20Bake%2035%20minutes%20at%20350%C2%B0.%20For%20the%20first%2010%20minutes%20use%20coals%20on%20the%20bottom%20only,%20then%20add%20coals%20to%20the%20top%20and%20continue%20baking%20until%20done.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E-posted%20by%20Sandy%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ebanana%20cake,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ebananas%20foster%20cake,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ecampfire%20cooking,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDutch%20oven%20dessert,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDutch%20oven%20recipe,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ehow%20to%20cook%20in%20a%20Dutch%20Oven%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
