Easy Apple Pie In Dutch Oven

Ingredients

  • Use a 6 Quart Cast Iron Camp Dutch Oven
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 Tbsp. brown sugar (light or possibly dark)
  • 5 x -6 good-sized apples, peeled, cored and sliced about 1/4 to 1/2 inch.
  • 2/3 c. all-purpose flour
  • 4 Tbsp. butter, cubed
  • 3 Tbsp. brown sugar Healthy pinch of salt
  • 1 x apple, peeled, cored and diced small
  • 1/4 c. sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg

Directions

  1. For the filling, heat together the butter, spices and the sugar in the cast iron skillet. Add in apples and cook till tender, about 15 min. For the topping, put the dry ingredients in a mixer and add in the cubed butter. Mix till it is crumbly, then add in the diced apple and shredded cheese. Put the topping on the filling in the pan and bake at 350 degrees for about 15 min or possibly until the top is golden brown. You can use any kind of hard apple for this.
