This easy crostini appetizer has all of the flavors of fall. Pear slices and blue cheese lend a perfect salty-sweet flavor to this seasonal recipe.

Every time I bring home pears from the grocery store, I get the same reaction from my boys…a fist pump and a hug. That makes me wish that pears were available year round! While my middle school boys are still good about doling out the hugs (as long as it’s not within 100 yards of their buddies), I will always gladly do things to illicit additional displays of affection. So, in the fall, that means that I go on a pear-buying spree. Shameless, I know.

The pears never last long, as we eat them every which way we can – in salads, in pancakes, in muffins and, of course, straight up. As soon as the boys walk through the door after school, they make a beeline for the fridge to grab a pear and a few slices of cheese. Afternoon carb and protein refueling!

Last year, during the height of the apple season, we became slightly obsessed with Cinnamon Apple & Goat Cheese Crostini as both snacks and appetizers. These pear and blue cheese crostini are a riff off of that original recipe and, believe me, they’re every bit as good as the originals.

If you’re serving these as appetizers at a holiday party, lightly toast the baguette slices several hours in advance. Just as the guests are arriving, pop the baguette slices back in the oven, with some crumbles of blue cheese on top. Once the cheese is slightly melted, top with the pear slices, agave nectar and thyme leaves. It just doesn’t get any easier!
