Drop Sand Tarts

This is a holiday cookie! It is an easier version of an old-fashioned rolled out cookie. It tastes very similar, but is not as unique as when they were rolled out, cut in fancy shapes and decorated. The old cookies were first brushed with an egg wash (beaten egg and water) with a pastry brush then topped with sugar (usually red and green for Christmas). You can still use colored sugars, nuts, or cinnamon sugar on the drop version of the cookie. They were stored in large air tight tin container.

Ingredients

  • 1 and 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 cups flour
  • colored sugars for top

Directions

  1. Mix all ingredients together.
  2. Let stand 10 minutes.
  3. Drop by small teaspoons onto cookie sheet.
  4. Press colored sugar on top.
  5. Bake at 350 for 8 to 10 minutes.
