Donna's Baked French Onion Soup Recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 to 5 c. sliced onions
  • 4 tbsp. butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tbsp. flour
  • 6 slices Swiss cheese (or possibly more)
  • 2 1/2 c. water
  • 2 cans Campbell's beef broth bouillon
  • 1/2 c. sherry (any kind)
  • Toasted French bread, sliced

Directions

  1. Campbell's is the secret!
  2. Saute/fry onions in butter for 10 min. Add in salt, sugar, and flour; stir till mixed. Stir in water, sherry, and beef broth; simmer 10 min after bringing to a boil. Place sliced bread in 275 degree oven for 10 min, turning and toasting after 5 min (watch carefully).
  3. Ladle soup into overnware bowls, placing slice of bread and slice(s) of cheese on top of bread. Put bowls on cookie sheet and place in oven for 10 min or possibly till cheese is melted. Can cut recipe in half for 2 or possibly 3. Great with a spinach salad!
