  • 1/2 c. unsalted butter
  • 1 c. packed brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. corn syrup
  • 6 x (1 inch thick) slices French bread
  • 5 x Large eggs
  • 1 1/2 c. half-and-half cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp orange brandy
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Directions

  1. Heat butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Fold in brown sugar and corn syrup, stirring till sugar is dissolved. Pour into a 9x13 inch baking dish. Remove crusts from bread, and arrange in the baking dish in a single layer. In a small bowl, whisk together Large eggs, half and half, vanilla extract, orange brandy, and salt. Pour over the bread. Cover, and refrigerateat least 8 hrs, or possibly overnight.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Remove the dish from the refrigerator, and bring to room temperature.
  3. Bake uncovered 35 to 40 min in the preheated oven, till puffed and lightly browned.
  4. Very rich French toast - can be made ahead of time.
  5. Prep Time: approx. 20 Min.
  6. Cook Time: approx. 40 Min.
  7. Ready in: approx. 9 Hrs .
