Half & Half Whole Wheat Bread (Machine or Hand-made)

Half & Half Whole Wheat Bread (Machine or Hand-made) by Salad Foodie

Well it's NEARLY half and half (whole wheat flour and white bread flour.) This makes a 2-pound loaf of bread though you can bake it in two 1-pound loaf pans and freeze one..or smaller pans as you wish. At high altitudes, decrease yeast a little (1/2 teaspoon) and increase water (1 to 2 tablespoons.)

Cornbread Waffles

Cornbread Waffles by Salad Foodie

Necessity is the mother of invention. In this instance I am going into the second month of home remodeling life without a kitchen. We either eat cereal, eat out or use small kitchen appliances to cook or heat up food. When given a container of homemade chili recently, I decided to try cooking my favorite cornbread recipe in the…

Banana and Granola Muffins

Banana and Granola Muffins by Salad Foodie

You can have breakfast in a muffin with your choice of ingredients. Make these with walnuts, almonds or pecans; select raisins, dried cranberries or coconut, and use your favorite granola flavor. If you wish to substitute buttermilk in place of regular, as I often do in baked products, see Useful Link below that I will be posting.

Caraway Rye Rolls or Sliders

Caraway Rye Rolls or Sliders by Salad Foodie

Perfect as rolls, or as sliders for corned beef sandwiches. Bake them apart on baking sheets for sliders, or in a 9 x 13 baking pan for pan rolls. I used a bread machine on the dough setting, then shaped, and baked in oven, but you can also make these in the conventional yeast roll method without a bread machine.

No, not just my favorite oatmeal muffin, these are actually my Number 1 Favorite Muffin ~ period! I love that they are comparatively low-fat and won’t make your fingers greasy as you eat them. New Best Flour Tortillas

New Best Flour Tortillas by myra byanka

Heretofore, I have only used lard to make tamales; however, I experimented with using it for tortillas. They came out flavorful, fluffy, and soft. Best ones ever! Dough or cooked ones will freeze. Re-heat on a griddle or skillet for maximum softness. The microwave will toughen them.

Blue Cornmeal Cornbread

Blue Cornmeal Cornbread by Salad Foodie

Blue cornmeal imparts a blue-violet cast to the bread, a coarser consistency and a sweeter, nuttier taste than yellow or white cornmeal. It is 20% higher in protein and has a lower glycemic index, good news for those with elevated blood sugar. However it can be difficult to find! Arrowhead and Bob's Red Mill make it and some health…
