Cold Brew Coffee Overnight Perfection

It’s summer, which to me means cold brew coffee time!

Nate and I are very different in our coffee tastes. We both enjoy a cold cup but he gets inventive with sweets and blends, whereas I’m more of a purist. I like my coffee rich and dark and relatively untouched. I’ve even started drinking the occasional green coffee bean concoction, a whole step back from the usual roasting process. I like my cold brew coffee, he likes his made hot and then poured over ice. There is one thing we can agree on, though.

Starbucks is king. We’re still working with Starbucks and I’ve eagerly followed their cold brew coffee developments recently. They released cold brew coffee in select markets earlier this year, and today announced that their cold brew coffee will become a core menu item in participating restaurants throughout the US and Canada.

If you could see me right now, you’d be witnessing a happy dance. Cold brew coffee lovers, rejoice!

How to Make Cold Brew Coffee

  • Cold Brew Coffee, with or without a French Press Total time 20 hours 5 mins Ingredients
  • 1¾ cups coffee beans, coarsely ground 3½ cups cold water Instructions

Place coffee beans in a french press or large glass container. Cover coffee beans with cold water and let sit 20 hours. If using french press, place press on top to keep covered. If using glass container, cover loosely with plastic wrap. Slowly press coffee if using french press, or strain through a fine mesh sieve if using a glass container. 3.3.3077

Starbucks’ cold brew coffee supplies are rumored to be limited to 50-60 cups per location per day, so I’m going to share how to make cold brew coffee at home to ensure that you can hop on this cold brew coffee trend. The process is SO simple. Coarsely grind high-quality coffee beans, place in a french press, and steep in cold water overnight. Then press slowly and serve! No french press? Steep in any glass container and strain through a fine-mesh sieve.

The taste of cold brew coffee is less bitter than traditional iced, with a natural chocolatey sweetness that lingers on your tastebuds.

So there you go, cold brew coffee at home. If you want to stick with Starbucks’ traditional lightly sweetened iced coffee, you’ll be glad to hear that they also make that stuff in K-cups now. Or you could just opt for bottled iced coffee like Nate. Pre-mixed and ready-to-go.

Cold brew coffee for everyone!

Are you a fan of cold brew coffee like me, or do you prefer the convenience of bottled iced coffee like Nate?
