Recipe Summary & Steps

Chocolate-coated Marshmallow Pops

February 13, 2012 · by Y.V. · in dessert, Sweets ·

are there times when you see something online, and you have to – just have to – try it out? well, there are many such recipes that i have been coming across, but i haven’t been able to do much. why? simply because i haven’t able to set up my oven in the place i am living in right now (long story – involves some electricity outages and stuff, so you really don’t want to know!)

i have given my version below (with some notes from the process added in as well). i have not made these marshmallows from scratch, but i do hope to get there some day (and maybe even try to make a vegetarian version of marshmallows – but im getting ahead of myself :)) make some today for the loves in your life – and make it a sweet valentine! :)

Ingredients:

  • Marshmallows
  • White or milk chocolate
  • Sprinkles/grated chocolate
  • Paper or plastic drinking straws
  • Making the Chocolate-coated Marshmallow Pops:

Using a knife with a narrow but sharp edge, make a ‘+’ shaped slit in one end of the marshmallows. This is the end from which you will be inserting your straws. Be careful and ensure you don’t poke the knife all the way out to the other end! Carefully insert the straws into the marshmallows, making

sure they are put inside as far as possible without coming through the other end. Put the pops in the freezer for about 15 minutes. This is important to ensure that the marshmallow is adhered securely to the straw (*if your freezer is super powerful, you can cut back the time accordingly – you don’t want the marshmallows becoming shrivelled as well!).

Melt the chocolate in the microwave or in a double boiler. Take out the pops from the freezer, and dip each marshmallow in the chocolate. Hold the pop upside down for a while until the excess chocolate drips away. Quickly dip into a bowl with the sprinkles or grated chocolate, and place right side up in a tall glass. If you are making this in a humid place, you would have to wait for a couple of minutes before the chocolate stops dripping. To make them set better, I made batches of five pops, placed them in a tall glass and then put the glass in the fridge for a while. Once the chocolate sets, you can put together a few sticks, or wrap them individually with clear cellophane paper, and tie them up with cute ribbons for a unique little gift! :)

i am sending this in to the RecipeLion February Blog Hop: Favourite Dessert Recipes! :) This involves a giveaway based on most votes, so if you liked this recipe, please head there and click on the ‘Like’ button for my recipe :) Thanks a ton! :)
