Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Walnut Fudge Frosting Recipe
I have been making this chocolate cake with chocolate walnut fudge frosting for as long as I can remember. It is delicious, chocolaty, and the chocolate fudge frosting is fantastic. My Grandma made this chocolate cake with chocolate walnut fudge frosting often and it was and continues to be my favorite chocolate cake. I have used the chocolate walnut fudge frosting on brownies too, with equally wonderful results:) This cake is always a big hit.......seriously, who doesn't like chocolate cake with chocolate walnut fudge frosting!! My Grandma said she got the recipes off the back of the Hershey's Cocoa container many years ago, but the recipe she used is slightly different from that one. Doesn't really matter though, this chocolate cake recipe and chocolate walnut fudge frosting recipe are delicious and I am happy to share them with you.
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup cocoa
- 1-1/2 t baking powder
- 1-1/2 t baking soda
- 1 t salt
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 t vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- Heat oven to 350ยบ F. Grease and flour 13 x 9 inch glass baking dish.
- Combine dry ingredients in large bowl; Add eggs, buttermilk, oil and vanilla; beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Stir in boiling water; batter will be thin. Pour into baking dish. Bake 25-35 minutes or until wooden toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool cake for 15 minutes on wire rack. Frost with Chocolate Walnut Fudge Frosting while cake is still warm but not hot.
- Chocolate Walnut Fudge Frosting~
- 1 stick butter
- 3 T cocoa
- 6 T milk
- 1 t vanilla
- 16 oz box powdered sugar
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
Melt together butter and cocoa. Add milk and vanilla. Stir in powdered sugar and nuts. Spread frosting on warm cake. Cool completely. For an added treat, serve with vanilla ice cream.
