Caramelized Onions and Pecan Green Beans

Sweet and Nutty Green Beans that everyone loves!

Ingredients

  • 1 large onion
  • 2 pounds green beans
  • ¼ c margarine
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped pecans
  • 1 t salt
  • ½ t pepper
  • 1 T sugar

Directions

  1. Cut onion in half and thinly slice. Bring a pot of water to a boil and add green beans and cook for 5 minutes. Drain green beans and drop in a bowl with ice and water to stop the cooking. Green beans need to be al-dente.
  2. Melt margarine in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add pecan pieces and sauté for about five minutes until pecans are toasted. Remove pecans from skillet with a slotted spoon and set aside. Add onions t skillet and cook stirring often about 15 minutes until onions are caramel colored. Add sugar to skillet and combine well. Return pecans to skillet with onions. Add salt and pepper and combine well and cook about five more minutes until it is completely heated.
