Caramel Scotch Frosting

Ingredients

  • 1 c. brown sugar, packed
  • 3 Tbsp. shortening
  • 2 Tbsp. butter or possibly margarine
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/3 c. lowfat milk
  • 1 1/2 c. powdered sugar, sifted

Caramel Scotch Frosting

Servings: 1
 

Directions

  1. Put brown sugar, shortening, butter and salt in saucepan and cook over medium heat till mix begins to bubble. Stir constantly. Add in lowfat milk; mix well. Continue cooking over medium heat till mix boils, stirring constantly. Boil vigorously 1 full minute. Remove from heat and cold to lukewarm. Add in powdered sugar all at once and beat till creamy and thick sufficient to spread. If it becomes too thick, soften over warm water.
  2. Sufficient for 8x12x2- inch loaf cake.
